Job Description
CVP is seeking a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist specializing in Bone Densitometry / DEXA to join our team in support of the VA New Jersey Health Care System, Toms River CBOC, located at 1051 Hooper Avenue, Toms River, NJ. This is a full-time, on-site position working Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM EST.
Responsibilities
- Perform Bone Densitometry (BD)/DEXA examinations on the lumbar spine, hips, and forearms in accordance with established protocols and standards
- Produce radiographic studies used in medical diagnosis and interpreted by medical officers to locate injuries, pathological conditions, or lesions within the body
- Assist with fluoroscopy and perform general diagnostic imaging as needed
- Prepare and administer contrast media and medications in accordance with state and federal regulations
- Apply knowledge of computerized and digital radiography (CR/DR) and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS)
- Prepare patients for radiographic procedures by assessing patient needs, providing pre-test education, explaining procedures, answering questions, and providing reassurance throughout the procedure
- Perform quality control measures to ensure optimal image quality; adjust equipment and position patients to eliminate test artifacts and protect patients from unnecessary radiation exposure
- Monitor patients for potentially dangerous physical and emotional changes during examinations and immediately notify the physician of any abnormal changes
- Evaluate test results for clarity and accuracy and take corrective action where appropriate
- Log data into patient information systems and update file systems for tests performed
- Prepare digital images for interpretation by the radiologist and transmit electronic images and reports via Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS)
- Document any delayed cases in CPRS notes, including the reason for delay and a plan to complete the study
- Review all pending cases on a daily basis
- Clean and disinfect equipment and workspace per standard operating procedure
- Recognize equipment malfunctions and readjust equipment or refer for repair
- Follow all national and local guidelines, including those of the Veterans Administration National Health Physics Program
- Adhere to all facility and service-level policies, procedures, infection control policies, and professional standards
- Demonstrate a high level of mental and emotional tolerance when dealing with patients, families, and co-workers, using tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and professional attitudes
Qualifications
- Must be eligible to obtain a Public Trust government security clearance; US Citizenship is required
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice Radiologic Technology in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia
- Certification in Diagnostic Radiologic Technology (R) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in general radiography; experience with DEXA/Bone Densitometry examinations strongly preferred
- Advanced ARRT certification in Bone Densitometry (BD) preferred
- Knowledge of computerized and digital radiography (CR/DR) and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS)
- Familiarity with general radiographic procedures including IVP, GI series, Modified Barium Swallow, and barium enema exams preferred
- Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently
Location
VA New Jersey Health Care System, Toms River CBOC, 1051 Hooper Avenue, Toms River, NJ.
Shift
- Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
Pay Rate
- Hourly Pay: $53.00/hr.
- Health & Wellness (H&W): $5.09/hr (H&W will be prorated based on enrollment in the benefits offered, including automatic enrollment in employer-paid plans).
