Job Title

DevEx Engineer

So, who are we?

I G is a FTSE 100 fintech operating across five continents, serving over 1.3m customers and handling billions of dollars in transactions – built on scale, trust, and proof. We didn't pivot to innovation; it's how we've always operated What that means for the people who work here is real: genuinely complex problems to solve, the technology and resources to tackle them properly, and the kind of scope that's rare in established businesses.

The bar is high – bring a curious and forward-thinking mindset and we'll give you the platform to define what comes next. Join us at IG – the future gets built here.

About the team:

This role is part of the Developer Experience team within IG's global engineering organisation. We build and run the internal developer platform — CI/CD pipelines, tooling, and a greenfield Internal Developer Portal — that hundreds of engineers rely on every day. You'll work alongside experienced platform engineers who'll support your growth as you take on increasing ownership of the developer experience.

Your role in the Team's success:

  • Building and evolving "Elite" CI/CD pipeline templates on GitLab that give every team a paved road to build, test, and release with confidence.
  • Contributing to the greenfield Internal Developer Portal on Backstage — a single front door for developers to discover services, documentation, APIs, and tooling.
  • Creating self-service tooling and golden-path templates that reduce friction and cognitive load across engineering teams.
  • Integrating and helping maintain the SaaS toolchain (Atlassian suite, GitLab, Artifactory) to keep developer workflows seamless.
  • Engineering away repetitive manual toil across the software development lifecycle, using AI tooling where it's justified.
  • Helping instrument and track DORA metrics to establish baselines and support continuous improvement.
  • Supporting the cloud transformation by building tooling and pipeline templates that target AWS while supporting the transitional hybrid estate.
  • Contributing to developer guides, onboarding materials, and best-practice documentation, and helping run enablement sessions for engineering teams.
  • Learning from and collaborating with senior platform engineers, growing your ownership of platform components over time.

What you'll need for this role:

Key Qualification Requirements:

  • 2–4 years of hands-on experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines at scale (GitLab CI/CD preferred), including pipeline-as-code, automated testing gates, artefact management, and reusable pipeline templates.
  • Exposure to internal developer portals and self-service platforms, ideally including hands-on Backstage experience (plugin development, catalog configuration), with comfort working on greenfield initiatives.
  • Coding ability in one or more of Java, Python, or TypeScript/JavaScript, with experience building internal tools, CLIs, APIs, or automation scripts.
  • Comfort working in Linux environments with solid Bash scripting skills for automation and system-level tooling.
  • Experience administering or integrating SaaS engineering tools such as Atlassian Jira, Confluence, Jira Product Discovery, or Jira Service Management.
  • Experience working in production environments with a focus on improving developer velocity and reducing friction, treating other engineering teams as your customers.
  • A product-minded approach to internal tooling, strong communication skills, genuine empathy for the daily experience of developers, and an eagerness to learn from more experienced engineers.
