Job Description

We are working closely with a local authority in Barnet to assist with the appointment of a Development Control Engineer, on a 12-months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £21.79- £28.75 per hour

Summary:

The Development Control Engineer will provide professional highways and engineering advice in relation to planning applications, development proposals and highway infrastructure schemes. The role will support the delivery of highways development control functions, ensuring that proposed developments are appropriately assessed, designed, constructed and integrated into the existing highway network.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the highway and transport implications of planning applications and development proposals.
  • Manage a caseload of highway development control applications and agreements, ensuring they are progressed efficiently and in accordance with relevant legislation and Council procedures.
  • Review highway designs, technical drawings, specifications, construction details and supporting documentation for compliance with relevant standards and requirements.
  • Ensure all activities comply with relevant highways legislation, Council policies, technical standards, health and safety requirements, data protection and corporate governance procedures.

Qualifications:

  • ONC/HNC or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Relevant professional or technical engineering knowledge appropriate to highways development control.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) in highways, civil engineering or a related field.

Essentials:

  • At least two years' relevant post-graduate or post-qualification experience in highways, civil engineering, transportation, development control or a related technical environment.
  • Significant experience of managing or supporting Section 38 and Section 278 highway schemes and agreements.
  • Experience of assessing planning applications and development proposals from a highways perspective.
