Job Description

Would you like to work at one of the fastest growing quantum technology companies with cutting-edge technology? Single Quantum is looking for a hands-on, analytical engineer or physicist who is excited to characterise cutting-edge single-photon detection technology and help bring new products from the lab into production. Do you want to be part of a diverse and dynamic scale-up company?

By all means, please read on!

IN SHORT

Single Quantum designs and builds the world's fastest and most sensitive light detection systems, limited only by the laws of physics!

The quantum world is small but growing. We are a steadily-growing scale-up with an ever-expanding worldwide customer base. We provide our photon detection systems to a wide range of customers and research institutes. As we continue to develop new detectors and customer systems, we need to fully characterise and validate them before they are transferred into production. Therefore, we are looking for a Development Test Engineer to join our Development team and make sure that every new product is measured, understood, and confidently handed over to production.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

As a Development Test Engineer, the main goal is to fully characterise our newly developed detectors and customer systems and to communicate validated results that enable the reliable transfer of new products from development into production. This includes (but not limited to):

  • Perform full characterisation of newly developed detectors and customer systems
  • Develop and optimise measurement procedures
  • Assemble, operate, and maintain optical and electrical experimental set-ups
  • Document and communicate results through structured reports and presentations
  • Maintain detailed documentation (SOPs, test protocols, calibration logs) to ensure reproducibility and traceability of measurements

Ideally, you will work full time and will be based at our HQ in Delft, contributing to our dynamic and friendly work environment!

As we scale up, our processes need to evolve to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the lab, as well as improve quality where possible. We would also ask you to contribute to these processes.

Your profile and requirements

We are looking for someone who has...

  • A MSc (or equivalent) in Applied Physics, Engineering, or a related field;
  • Analytical, with strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills;
  • A solid knowledge of electronics, optics, lasers, and single-photon detectors (SNSPDs);
  • Practical, hands-on skills and enjoy building, operating, and maintaining optical and electrical experimental set-ups;
  • A strong reporting and presenting skills and can communicate validated results clearly to different teams;
  • Organisation skills, with good planning, time-management, and administration skills;

The following are a plus:

  • Programming skills (for example Python) for measurement automation and data analysis;
  • Basic knowledge of soldering;
  • Basic knowledge of cryogenics;
  • Affinity with photonics or quantum technology.

What we offer

  • A collaborative, international team working at the forefront of high-tech innovation, with colleagues from various (and international) background.
  • Salary in accordance to the CAO (Collective Labour Agreement) Metalelektro, complemented by secondary benefits.
  • Comfortable workplace perks, including coffee, fresh fruit, and weekly catered lunches.
  • A solid retirement plan to support your future (provided by PME).
  • Up to 40 vacation days per year (based on full-time employment).
  • Plenty of space to share your ideas and take initiative—your voice matters from day one.
  • A company culture that genuinely supports personal growth and professional development.
  • Comprehensive social security benefits in accordance with the Metalelektro Collective Labor Agreement (CAO Metalelektro).
