Job Description
Development Operations Engineer, Sr.
Department: SaaS
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Wroclaw
We are looking for a Senior Development Operations Engineer with deep expertise in AWS cloud infrastructure, infrastructure automation, and DevOps practices. This role sits at the intersection of cloud engineering and operational reliability, with a primary focus on architecting, implementing, and maintaining highly available infrastructure across AWS Commercial and AWS European Sovereign Cloud (EUSC) environments. You will also coordinate with US-based teams who manage AWS GovCloud.
Success in this role requires strong ownership, problem-solving ability, and a commitment to automation, reliability, and security best practices. You will work heavily with infrastructure automation, Terraform orchestration approval workflows, and support operations — while applying DevOps principles of continuous delivery, observability, and infrastructure as code throughout.
This is a hands-on engineering role with a clear growth path to Principal level, where you would be expected to serve as a tech lead, architect solutions at scale, and act as an internal thought leader for DevOps practices across the organization.
A Typical Day in the Life Includes:
- Committing code to Git repositories — maintaining and evolving infrastructure automation
- Reviewing and approving Terraform deployment requests in orchestration queues
- Responding to operational support tickets (Jira, ServiceNow)
- Architecting and implementing solutions for cloud infrastructure challenges and objectives
- Coordinating with the US team on cross-region infrastructure standards
- Supporting AWS European Sovereign Cloud infrastructure in Dev and Prod environments
- Participating in code reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions
- Following ITIL-aligned change management, incident notification, and major incident management processes
- Architect, implement, and operate innovative and highly available cloud infrastructure solutions
- Maintain infrastructure automation current with the latest standards to ensure reliability and reduce operational drift
- Develop, test, and deploy changes from dev to production following the standard release process
- Contribute to internal infrastructure automation codebases
- Build CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and configuration changes
- Automate operational workflows using Python, Bash, or other necessary languages
- Implement infrastructure as code for all resources with proper state management and drift detection
- Work primarily in AWS Commercial and AWS European Sovereign Cloud environments (the team also manages AWS GovCloud via US-based personnel)
- Deploy and maintain infrastructure using Terraform and CloudFormation
- Define and enforce secure cross-account access patterns and IAM policies
- Operate and optimize AWS networking services: VPC, Transit Gateway, VPC Endpoints
- Maintain compliance and security posture using AWS Config and CloudTrail
- Scrutinize IAM, KMS, and Security Group deployments
- Manage Terraform orchestration approval workflows, ensuring deployment queues are never left unattended
- Respond to operational support tickets via Jira and ServiceNow (cloud role changes, product stack deployments, infrastructure requests)
- Follow Change Management process — all changes preceded by approved Change Requests
- Follow Major Incident Management (MIM) process for outage detection and escalation
- Incident notification: any outages or degradations regardless of impact should result in immediate notification to supervisor and impacted service owners
- Adhere to Corporate Standard Operating Procedures
- Participate in on-call rotation as required
- Support AWS European Sovereign Cloud infrastructure in both Dev and Prod environments
- Ensure EUSC infrastructure components maintain compatibility with AWS Commercial, GovCloud, and China region environments
- Maintain backward compatibility when implementing sovereign-cloud-specific changes
- Coordinate with US team on cross-region infrastructure standards
- Provide accurate documentation that enables knowledge sharing and reduces dependency on individuals
- Stay current with new features released by internal platform teams and share relevant updates with the team
- Develop runbooks and automated incident response playbooks
- Contribute learnings from sovereign cloud enablement back to the team
- Hands-on AI usage required: proven use of AI coding assistants/agents to generate or improve code and automation
- Examples: Copilot, Claude, Amazon Q Developer (Q/Kiro), Cursor, CodeWhisperer
- Ability to validate AI outputs: tests, logs, reviews, staged rollout/rollback
- Collaborate with colleagues from other infrastructure teams (Database, Storage, Network) and support them
- Coordinate with cross-regional teams across US and EU time zones
- Participate in technical discussions, troubleshooting sessions, and incident calls
- Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Embody core values of sharing, increasing software delivery speed, continuous improvement, self-organization, and self-service
Basic Qualifications:
- Experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or infrastructure operations roles
- Hands-on AWS experience with depth in services heavily used for DevOps Automation (CloudFormation, Lambda, ECS, Containers, EC2, Step Functions, Fargate, API Gateway, SSM)
- AWS network infrastructure knowledge (VPC, peering, transit gateway, direct connect, IPv4 and IPv6 addressing)
- AWS security services (IAM, KMS, CloudTrail)
- Proficiency with infrastructure as code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation)
- Experience writing code in Python, Bash
- Full understanding and demonstrable usage of Git
- Experience with CI/CD platforms (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar)
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work across time zones with globally distributed teams
- Understanding of change management and incident management processes
- Comfortable with hands-on keyboard activity — you will be committing code to repositories daily
Preferred Qualifications:
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (or willingness to obtain within first year)
- Experience with multi-region or global infrastructure architectures
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks (SOC 2, HIPAA, FedRAMP) as they relate to cloud infrastructure
- Experience with approval workflow systems and ITSM ticketing processes
- Familiarity with zero-trust architectures and cloud security best practices
- Experience working in a globally distributed team
