Development Operations Engineer

Description

We are looking for a skilled DevOps Engineer with 3 years of hands-on experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing cloud infrastructure, automating deployments, maintaining CI/CD pipelines, and ensuring high availability of our platform services. You will work closely with development teams to streamline workflows and improve system reliability.

A Typical Day in the Life Includes

• Design, deploy, and manage AWS cloud infrastructure including EC2, VPC, VPC Peering, Subnets, Security Groups, Route Tables, NAT Gateways, Internet Gateways, and Load Balancers
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD or similar tools
• Containerize applications using Docker and manage container orchestration with Kubernetes (EKS)
• Write and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
• Manage and administer Linux-based servers (Ubuntu/Amazon Linux)
• Configure and manage Nginx as a reverse proxy and load balancer
• Administer and maintain MySQL and MongoDB databases in production environments
• Write automation scripts (Bash/Python) to streamline operational tasks
• Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions
• Leverage AI tools and platforms to automate repetitive DevOps tasks and improve efficiency
• Manage Git repositories, branching strategies, and code collaboration workflows
• Troubleshoot networking issues across VPCs, peered connections, and hybrid environments
• Ensure security best practices across infrastructure and deployments

Basic Qualifications

AWS Cloud (Strong)

• EC2 instance management, AMIs, Auto Scaling Groups
• VPC design and configuration (Subnets, Route Tables, NACLs, Security Groups)
• VPC Peering and Transit Gateway
• Networking: DNS (Route 53), Elastic IPs, NAT/Internet Gateways, Load Balancers (ALB/NLB)
• IAM roles, policies, and security best practices
• S3, EBS, EFS storage management
• CloudWatch monitoring and logging

Containerization & Orchestration

• Docker: Writing Dockerfiles, building images, managing containers, Docker Compose
• Kubernetes: Deployments, Services, ConfigMaps, Secrets, Ingress, RBAC, Helm charts
• Experience with Amazon EKS is a strong plus

Infrastructure as Code

• Terraform: Writing modules, state management, workspaces, provider configuration
• Version-controlled infrastructure with proper CI/CD integration

Linux & Scripting (Strong)

• Strong command over Linux administration (Ubuntu/CentOS/Amazon Linux)
• Shell scripting (Bash) for automation
• Python scripting for tooling and automation tasks
• Cron jobs, systemd services, process management

Databases

• MySQL: Installation, configuration, backup/restore, replication basics
• MongoDB: Deployment, replica sets, backup strategies, TLS configuration

Version Control

• Git: Branching strategies (GitFlow), merge requests, conflict resolution
• GitLab/GitHub repository management and CI/CD pipeline configuration

Web Server & Reverse Proxy

• Nginx: Configuration as reverse proxy, SSL termination, load balancing, virtual hosts

Automation & AI

• Use of AI-powered tools (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Kiro, etc.) to automate infrastructure tasks
• Building automated workflows for deployment, monitoring, and incident response
• Scripting automation for routine operational tasks

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with EMR on EKS / Spark workloads
• Familiarity with Kafka, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch
• Experience with Prometheus and Grafana for monitoring
• Knowledge of DocumentDB or managed database services
• Exposure to Ansible or other configuration management tools
• Understanding of microservices architecture
• Experience with cost optimization on AWS

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
