WHO ARE WE HIRING?

The Development Engineer – Tunnel Lighting is responsible for the continuous improvement, maintenance and evolution of tunnel lighting products throughout their lifecycle. The role focuses on product updates, implementation of new components and technologies, optimization of existing designs, product configuration management and technical documentation.

Working closely with R&D, Product Management, Production Engineering, Purchasing and suppliers, the Development Engineer ensures that tunnel lighting products remain competitive, reliable, cost-effective and aligned with product strategy. The role combines product development, mechanical design, technical documentation and lifecycle management activities to support the continuous evolution of tunnel lighting solutions.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Product Development & Lifecycle Management

  • Manage updates and continuous improvement of tunnel lighting products in line with product strategy and business objectives.
  • Introduce new components, drivers, and technologies into existing products.
  • Improve product functionality, performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Develop, evaluate, and implement engineering changes to existing products and configurations.
  • Support cost-reduction initiatives while maintaining product quality and performance.
  • Contribute to lifecycle management activities and the continuous evolution of tunnel lighting solutions.

Mechanical Design & Engineering

  • Design and develop new mechanical components and improve existing product designs.
  • Create and maintain 3D models, 2D drawings, electrical schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Evaluate technical solutions and propose design improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with technical, manufacturing, quality, and cost requirements.
  • Define technical specifications for components and collaborate with suppliers on their implementation.
  • Coordinate prototype and sample requests and support product validation activities.

Product Configuration & Data Management

  • Create and maintain product structures (150% BOM) within BlueStar.
  • Develop and update product configurators.
  • Create, maintain, and update WID documentation.
  • Develop and maintain Driver Matrix configurations.
  • Ensure engineering documentation and product data remain accurate and up to date.
  • Coordinate with Production Engineering on updates to commercial and manufacturing configurators.
  • Ensure consistency of product information across engineering and business systems.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with R&D, Product Management, Production Engineering, Purchasing, and Operations teams.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on component selection, qualification, and implementation.
  • Participate in technical reviews and cross-functional project meetings.
  • Coordinate activities with laboratories and validation teams when required.
  • Provide technical support and expertise related to tunnel lighting products.
  • Ensure effective communication between all stakeholders involved in product updates and engineering changes.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for technical optimization and cost reduction.
  • Contribute to standardization initiatives and engineering best practices.
  • Support improvements to product development and configuration management processes.
  • Share technical knowledge and lessons learned across the engineering community.
  • Stay informed about new technologies, materials, and industry trends relevant to tunnel lighting solutions.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Product Design, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience in product development, product lifecycle management, mechanical design, or product engineering is an advantage.
  • Experience with configurable products, technical documentation, or product data management is a plus.
  • Junior candidates with strong technical foundations and a willingness to learn are welcome to apply.

Technical Expertise

  • Good knowledge of mechanical design principles and product development practices.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software and technical drawing creation.
  • Ability to read, create, and maintain engineering documentation and product specifications.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacturing principles.
  • Experience with BOM management and product configuration systems is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of electronics integration, LED technology, drivers, or lighting products is considered a plus.

Systems & Tools

  • Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with PLM, ERP, or product configuration systems is an advantage.
  • Good command of Microsoft Office tools.
  • Experience managing engineering data and technical documentation.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and a structured approach to work.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • English proficiency at B1-B2 level or higher.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with LED lighting products or lighting systems.
  • Experience with product configurators and variant management.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Cost (DFC) principles.
  • Experience working with suppliers of technical components.
  • Familiarity with BlueStar or similar PLM/ERP systems.
