Join Us!

At Google Operations Center we help Google users and customers solve problems and achieve their goals—all while enjoying a culture focused on improving continuously and being better together. We work hard, we play hard, and we want you to join us!

Role Overview:

In this role, you will manage our web routing infrastructure, designing secure redirect strategies and domain mapping systems to ensure seamless traffic flow. You will be responsible for safely refactoring legacy codebases with zero downtime, troubleshooting complex network issues, and maintaining high engineering standards through clean, well-documented code.

Position Responsibilities

  • Architect and Execute Web Redirects: Design, implement, test, and manage web redirect strategies and routing rules. Ensure all configurations are optimized for seamless user transitions, minimal latency, and zero disruption to live traffic.
  • Manage and Refactor Legacy Codebases: Comfortably navigate, analyze, and maintain legacy codebases. Safely modify environment variables, deployment configurations, and data serialization files as required to support infrastructure updates without breaking existing builds or production environments.
  • Maintain High-Quality Engineering Standards: Write clean, well-documented, and highly testable code.
  • Monitor and Troubleshoot Traffic Flow: Analyze server behavior, traffic patterns, and routing logs to diagnose and resolve complex redirection loops, broken links, or configuration anomalies that impact the user experience.
  • Set Up and Manage Domain Mapping: Configure and maintain domain mapping systems to link custom domains, subdomains, and short URLs to web applications and CDNs.
  • Manage Network Traffic and Routing: Oversee web request routing to ensure paths are secure, reliable, and fast across server networks.
  • Update Older Configurations: Review and update existing codebases, configuration files, and deployment scripts to align routing setups without breaking live production systems.
  • Keep Documentation Up to Date: Write clear configuration code and technical documentation for the team.
  • Troubleshoot Routing Issues: Diagnose and fix common and edge-case network issues, such as DNS propagation delays, SSL/TLS handshake errors, and certificate mismatches.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Professional Experience: 6+ years of relevant technical experience working with web infrastructure, backend engineering, or systems operations.
  • Deep Web Architecture Mastery: Complete, comprehensive understanding of modern web architecture, including client-server models, the HTTP request/response lifecycle, DNS management, and content delivery networks (CDNs).
  • Strong Backend Core Competency: Solid backend engineering knowledge necessary to execute, troubleshoot, and optimize complex server-side redirect systems, proxy configurations, and underlying application logic.
  • Expertise in HTTP & Site Headers: Advanced understanding of HTTP site headers, including caching controls, security headers, routing protocols, and HTTP status codes (e.g., 301, 302, 404), and how they influence browser behavior and search engine indexing.
  • Strong Knowledge of DNS: Understanding of DNS management, including configuring standard records (A, AAAA, CNAME, TXT, MX, NS) and managing domain registrars.

Preferred Qualifications

Having as many of these specific qualifications is a plus, but transferable skills/experiences may be equally valuable:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Benefits

  • We support you with competitive wages and with comprehensive health care including medical, dental and vision coverage
  • We support your family with gender-neutral baby bonding leave, 26 week birth-parent maternity leave, and generous life, accident and disability insurance minimums
  • Employees who work onsite can enjoy free meals and snacks, and fun onsite experiences
