About this opportunity

Our PCB Design team is part of the radio design unit and takes the end‑to‑end responsibility for PCB design and quality assurance – from early concept and pre‑development through to volume products and field maintenance – and we drive global PCB technology and governance across Ericsson.

We are now looking for an experienced PCB designer to join our team in Yokohama, Japan. You will work in close collaboration with PCB Technology Specialists, Radio-, Digital-, Mechanical-, Thermal design and Production Engineers for an efficient Board Layout Design. Your role will include all development activities such as: Requirement Analysis, Product Lifecycle Management support and Technical Documentation. We organize in collaboration with multi-functional development teams in which continuous improvement, innovation and experience sharing is part of the daily work. You will work with cutting edge technology within the area.

Your main task will be planning and doing PCB design and routing based on input from Board-/schematic design. You will be using Cadence Allegro as CAD tool + an Ericsson Specific Library tool. You are requested to manage design constraints, floor plan analysis and layer/stack up analysis in your daily work. You will be part of a team with focus on different PCB design modules (RF, Digital, High speed, Memories, DC/DC, etc) and expected to be a good team player.

What you will do:

  • Be part of a collaborative, multi‑disciplinary team working with cutting‑edge technology and complex boards
  • Plan and execute PCB layouts based on board/schematic input, including RF, digital, high‑speed interfaces, memories and power stages
  • Use Cadence Allegro PCB Editor together with Ericsson’s specific library tool
  • Define, manage and enforce design constraints, stack‑ups and floorplans – ensuring electrical, mechanical and thermal requirements are met
  • Perform routing plan and layout‑related simulations/analyses in collaboration with specialist tools and experts.
  • Contribute to DFM reviews and analyses, securing robust design for volume manufacturing and optimized yield and quality.
  • Support Product Lifecycle Management activities and maintain high‑quality technical documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Work closely with PCB technology specialists, radio/digital/thermal/mechanical design, production and test engineers to co‑optimize board design in a cross‑functional setup.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of methods, design rules and ways of working within the PCB design community.

The skills you bring:

  • At least a BSc level in a technical discipline (e.g. Electrical Engineering) or equivalent experience.
  • Several years of hands‑on PCB layout experience.
  • Good understanding of PCB design and manufacturing processes, mass production and design statistics.
  • Programming/scripting skills are an advantage for automation and design efficiency.
  • Experience in product development and Product Lifecycle Management.
  • Good analytical skills and a problem-solving mentality.
  • Understanding of telecommunications.
  • Experience in radio design requirements in PCB layout.
  • Some experience in signal and power integrity requirements in PCB layout.
  • Understanding of thermal design.
  • You enjoy working with cross‑functional, international and multi‑site teams.
  • Strong communication skills in spoken and written English (Japanese language skills are a plus).
