Job Description
The Opportunity
The Developer, Customization & Automation is a hands-on technical role responsible for designing, building, and maintaining intelligent automation solutions across the enterprise, with a primary focus on the ServiceNow platform, UiPath, and the Microsoft Power Platform. The role streamlines workflows, eliminates manual effort, and embeds AI-powered and agentic capabilities into day-to-day business processes.
Beyond development, this role acts as a trusted technical advisor: assessing automation opportunities, recommending the right platform and approach for each use case, and establishing the standards, patterns, and governance that keep solutions scalable, secure, and maintainable as the organization's automation footprint grows. The Developer works cross-functionally with IT, operations, and business stakeholders to translate needs into reliable, well-documented solutions and to guide responsible adoption of emerging AI technologies.
Key Accountabilities
Platform Development & Customization
- UiPath: Build, test, and maintain attended and unattended automations using UiPath Studio and Orchestrator, applying reusable components, the RE Framework, and intelligent document processing (IXP / Document Understanding) where appropriate.
- Power Platform: Develop solutions across Power Automate (cloud and desktop flows), Power Apps (canvas and model-driven), and Dataverse, integrating with Microsoft 365 and line-of-business systems via standard and custom connectors.
- ServiceNow: Design, configure, and customize ServiceNow applications and workflows including Flow Designer, Integration Hub, Business Rules, Script Includes, UI Policies/Actions, scoped applications, and App Engine to extend the platform and automate service management processes (ITSM, and related workflows).
- Develop and maintain custom scripts, APIs, and integrations that connect ServiceNow, UiPath, Power Platform, and third-party systems into cohesive end-to-end workflows.
- Translate business requirements gathered from cross-functional stakeholders into clear technical specifications and reliable, well-documented solutions.
- Manage the full development lifecycle — requirements, design, build, unit/integration/UAT testing, deployment, and post-implementation review — adhering to version control, peer review, and documentation standards.
AI & Intelligent Automation
- Design and deploy AI-assisted and agentic solutions that augment operational capabilities, including natural language processing, document intelligence, conversational interfaces, and predictive or decision-support automation.
- Integrate third-party AI services, LLMs, and APIs into operational workflows, applying patterns such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), prompt engineering, human-in-the-loop review, and multi-agent orchestration.
- Partner with the business to define AI use cases, prototype solutions, and iteratively refine them based on user feedback and measured outcomes.
- Ensure AI and agentic solutions are implemented responsibly — with appropriate data governance, privacy, security guardrails, auditability, and compliance with organizational and regulatory policies.
Support & Continuous Improvement
- Provide support for automation solutions, diagnosing and resolving issues in a timely manner to minimize operational disruption.
- Monitor the performance, reliability, and efficiency of deployed solutions, proactively identifying and addressing bottlenecks or degradation and recommending optimization opportunities.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for all solutions, including architecture diagrams, user guides, and runbooks.
- Deliver training sessions and knowledge transfer to IT staff and end users to promote adoption and self-sufficiency across the business.
Qualifications
Education
- Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of technical certifications and practical experience will be strongly considered in lieu of a formal degree.
Experience
- 5-6 years of hands-on experience in software development, automation engineering, or a closely related technical role.
- Demonstrated experience designing and delivering automation solutions in an enterprise environment with tools like UiPath, and Power Automate.
- Experience integrating third-party AI tools or APIs into operational workflows, with an understanding of practical AI/ML applications.
- Background working in cross-functional environments, translating business requirements from non-technical stakeholders into technical solutions.
Skills & Abilities
- Technical Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of UiPath, Power Automate, PowerShell, or familiarity with comparable platforms (e.g., Blue Prism, Automation Anywhere).
- AI & Automation Literacy: Practical understanding of AI concepts with the ability to apply these in real-world automation contexts.
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical mindset with the ability to break down complex operational challenges and architect effective, scalable solutions.
- Communication & Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences and collaborate effectively across teams.
- Documentation: Disciplined approach to technical documentation, ensuring solutions are maintainable and knowledge is transferable.
- Adaptability: Comfortable working in a dynamic, mission-driven environment; able to manage multiple priorities and adapt to evolving organizational needs.
Effort & Working Conditions
- High degree of mental effort to analyze and resolve issues.
- Office-based work with periodic meetings; flexibility for non-standard hours as required.
