Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Conduct criminal and administrative investigations for the Hutto ISD Police Department. Investigate offenses occurring on district property or involving district students, staff, or other persons as assigned. Collect and

preserve evidence. Interview victims, witnesses, and suspects. Prepare detailed investigative reports. Coordinate investigative activities with campus administrators and outside law enforcement agencies. Manage

the Hutto ISD Police Department's evidence room according to TCOLE standards. Provide professional, student-centered police services while maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of investigations.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Texas Peace Officer License in good standing from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement
  • TCOLE Basic/Advanced Instructor, preferred
  • Valid Texas driver's license

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • General knowledge of criminal investigation, police report writing, and criminal laws
  • Knowledge of investigative procedures, evidence collection and preservation, and case preparation
  • Proficiency in criminal law, investigations, and police reporting
  • Understanding of the Texas Penal Code, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, Texas Family Code, and Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code
  • Ability to conduct interviews and interrogations and develop investigative leads
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment with sensitive information
  • Strong organizational, communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple investigations, and meet established deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with school administrators, prosecutors, outside lawenforcement agencies, and other partners
  • Knowledge of educational environments and working with youth

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive law enforcement experience or substantially similar, commensurate experience as deemed by the Chief of Police
  • Demonstrated experience handling complex systems administration is strongly preferred
  • Experience working with or in a school-based law enforcement agency is preferred
  • Experience conducting interviews, preparing cases for prosecution, and testifying in court is preferred
