Job Description

ACCEPTING INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY AT THIS TIME

The Desktop Support Specialist will provide IT technical support to all City of Conroe users. Respond to and prioritize helpdesk support tickets while being aware of the impact on the City and all users. Escalate Level 2 desktop support tickets to the Senior Desktop Support Specialist as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED required. Working knowledge of the latest Microsoft operating systems gained through continuing education programs equivalent to that gained from completion of one year of college; Two years prior experience or a combination of both, preferably in an enterprise or government environment.

CompTIA A+ required or comparable certificate as determined by the supervisor. (Must be obtained within six months of employment or attainment of position as a condition of continued employment. If the certification expires, becomes obsolete, or ceased to be offered by the certification authority, you are required to achieve a new or higher qualifying certification within one year of expiration.)

Special Requirements:

  • Preferred Certifications: CompTIA Network+, Microsoft MTA Server Fundamentals.
  • A valid class "C" Texas driver's license or higher is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of the latest Microsoft operating systems.
  • Knowledge of latest Microsoft operating systems maintenance practices including feature updates, patches and version upgrades.
  • Understanding of general PC and account security practices and remediation processes and tools.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office products and standard professional applications, equipment and remote connectivity platforms.
  • Skilled in diagnosing and troubleshooting issues to determine the root cause whether hardware, software, network as well or system configuration issues.
  • Ability to assemble and connect standard computer components including computers, monitors, printers, modems and mobile devices.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform normal software installation tasks.
  • Ability to perform tasks necessary to manage and update end user networked equipment as needed (primarily printers, scanners and cameras).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is medium and requires the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, crouching, feeling, fingering, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
