Mechanical Designer, Commercial Tenant - Toronto, Ontario, Canada

MAKE AN IMPACT THAT MATTERS

We’re looking for a Mechanical Designer with strong communication skills and a collaborative, client-focused approach to join our Commercial (Tenant) team. In this role, you’ll support tenant fit-out and renovation projects across a diverse commercial portfolio, working in a fast-paced, highly interactive environment.

You’ll contribute to mechanical designs from concept through construction, preparing drawings, specifications, and documentation in line with project requirements, applicable codes, and H.H. Angus standards. Working with a technically strong team, you’ll evaluate design options, consider constructability, and coordinate closely with architects, engineers, clients, and other stakeholders to support smooth project delivery. Tenant work offers broad exposure across all project phases, with opportunities to take ownership and build direct client relationships.

Responsibilities include producing and updating drawings in AutoCAD and Revit, participating in coordination meetings, and supporting construction-phase activities. You’ll manage assigned tasks to meet timelines while maintaining accuracy and quality across all project documentation.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Productive individual contributor.
  • Creates concept designs, design specifications, and assesses constructability with coaching and support from more senior designers.
  • Develops the complete design package on time and within budgeted hours.
  • Assists with different project phases, such as construction and materials, as required.
  • Effectively applies tools and methodologies used for product and service delivery (e.g., AutoCAD, HHA Drawing Standards, Plotters, etc.).
  • Ensures technical accuracy of project deliverables.
  • Manages and prioritizes own project activities in order to meet project deadlines for all assigned tasks.
  • Develops and maintains good working relationships with clients on assigned projects.
  • Ensures timesheets, logs, and files are accurate and up to date.
  • Demonstrates an ability to work independently on assigned projects.
  • Works under close supervision in solving problems.
  • Other duties as required.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

• College diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related program.

  • 2–5 years of experience in an engineering consulting environment, with exposure to building systems design; experience with tenant fit-out projects is considered an asset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams and build client relationships.
  • Experience contributing to mechanical design packages, including concept design, design development, and construction documentation.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD required. Experience with Revit is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with design coordination, constructability considerations, and project delivery processes.
  • Ability to manage individual tasks and priorities to meet project deadlines and budgeted hours.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on producing technically accurate and well-documented deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and under supervision while developing problem-solving skills.
  • Organized and reliable, with the ability to maintain accurate project records, timesheets, and documentation.
  • Motivated to learn, adaptable, and interested in developing technical expertise within the built environment.

TOTAL REWARDS

The expected salary for this role is between $65,000 to $80,000 annually. Base salaries are determined considering several factors such as skills and competencies, experience, education, and internal and external competitiveness. Along with your base salary, we offer a wide array of programs that include our Short-Term Incentive bonus program, technical and business training, mentoring, wellness initiatives, the opportunity to participate in our coveted Defined Benefit Pension plan, flexible work arrangement, and hybrid work structure.
