Group Summary:

The Mechatronics, Mirrors and Lighting group specializes in automotive technologies that are driving the future of mobility. Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for design and release of automotive lighting systems and components frominitialconcept through production release.Collaborating with the Senior Designer, you will implement solid design concepts aligned with customer contract requirements. Conductinglamplevel orcomponentlevel packaging studies,you'llbalance physical space limitations while defining CAD files that articulate design intent across various assembly levels.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop2D and 3Dlightingconceptsin Catia V5frominitialfeasibilitythrough production Design responsibility will range from single components to full assemblies.

  • Work with the Senior Designer to develop and implement solid design concepts to meet the requirements defined in customercontractDesigns should demonstrate understanding ofMagna’s Best Practices, plastic injection molding,OEMspecifications,andmanufacturing and other best practices

  • Perform vehicle level packaging studies, balancing physical space limitations, legal functional requirements, and manufacturing limitations.

  • Strong understanding of dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Able to independently devise dimensioning schemes that suit fit & function of parts while accounting for mating condition to other components in an assembly.

  • Works with Product Engineers to provide data necessary for CAE studies. Understand and interpret CAE results (Thermal, Vibration) andmodifydesigns accordingly based on results

  • Participate in weekly customer meetings and presentCADdataas necessary.

  • Ensure the CAD deliverables are progressing along the expected timeline and propose action plans should problems arise

  • Maintain and updateMagna’sDesign Checklist’s prior to Gate Reviews.

  • Exercise expert knowledge and skill when executing internal CAD change management, and when adapting to customer change management systems,in order toensure accuracy and proper protocol whensubmittingmath data.

  • Maintain and reviseMagna’sdesign responsible, computer aided design files within ourCustomer’sdata management system

  • Support data translation at the request of oursupply base tofacilitatetool builds and concurrent design activity in CAD packages

  • Drives CAD filemanagementbest practices, and individual CAD file data integrity, based on company standards.

  • Maintain Component Change Logs after TKO to ensure proper tracking and change management.

  • Maintain and update Magna’s Design Checklist’s prior to Gate Reviews.

  • Ensuresaccurateexecution of assignments related to Engineering Change Notices whilemaintainingproper revision levels and change sequencing.

  • Referencecorporate RASIC charts for specific details on program responsibilities and authorities.

  • Understands and follows existing policies, procedures, workinstructionsand standards and makes recommendations for continuous improvement.

  • Follows all applicable Health and Safety processes and policies

  • Follows Magna’s Code of Conduct & Ethics and related compliance policies

  • Perform other duties asrequired

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of4yearsin automotive engineering with design experience in complex systems with subsystems/components. Automotive Lighting design experience is strongly preferred.

Education / Experience

  • Two or three years post-secondary school (university or Community college) (Engineering Field) or Associates in CAD

Special Knowledge / Skills:

  • Expert inCatia V5CAD software.

  • Understands and applies standard plastics geometries to ensure manufacturing controls (iedraft,wall stock,radiiandfillets) are incorporated

  • Effective communication (written and verbal) with the customers, suppliers, and various departments withinMagna.

  • Ability to workand communicate with international Design team members.

  • Proficiencyin Microsoft Applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Demonstrated understanding of Standard Drafting Practices and the ability to define and interpret the principles of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing

  • Comprehensive understanding ofAutosystemsmanufacturing processes and techniques, such as Injection Molding, Coating systems, and Assembly techniques currently in use

  • Demonstrated knowledge of BOM assemblies, extensions, LED lamps,A Surfacing, and reflectors and front-end modules

  • Candidate must be a self-starter,motivatedand works with minimal guidance.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer

  • Working inofficeminimum of 3 days/week.
