We are currently seeking a Design Thermal Engineer to join our dynamic team in Zagreb, Croatia!
We are looking for a Design Thermal Engineer to join our Global Infrastructure Solutions Product Engineering organization and lead the development of HVAC and thermal solutions for modular data centers and AI factories. In this role, you will own the thermal design from concept through execution, ensuring performance, availability (Tier I–IV), and compliance with relevant standards while collaborating closely with global, multidisciplinary teams.
What kind of work will you be doing?
- Design of thermal solutions (HVAC) for modular data centers and AI factories in accordance with the required data center availability (Tier I–IV).
- Preparation of design documentation in the phases of concept, detailed design, construction design, and execution/implementation for DX (Direct Expansion), chilled water (CW), and air-cooled systems.
- Preparation of HVAC design documentation based on input data (requirements, standards), including:
- Heat load/capacity calculations
- P&ID diagrams (DX, CW)
- Design of ventilation and air distribution systems
- Pressure drop calculations and pipe sizing
- Creation and validation of CFD simulations for the data center
- Selection and specification of equipment (chillers, CRAH, AHU)
- Selection and specification of installation materials
- Knowledge of relevant European and international HVAC standards
- Application of HVAC-related standards during design and application of good engineering practice.
- Work on complex international projects and close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams (engineering, sales, service, IT, and manufacturing).
- Collaboration with global teams, suppliers, and technology partners.
- Participation in regular project team meetings and coordination meetings at Vertiv factory.
- Reporting project status to the Lead Project Engineer.
- Proactive collaboration with all team members during project execution.
- Review and approval of workshop documentation prepared by subcontractors.
- Specification of materials and required certificates for materials to be ordered.
- Technical approval of received supplier quotations.
- Collaboration with the manufacturing team and the on-site implementation team.
- Collaboration with the site/factory manager during installation; providing technical solutions to raised questions.
- Collaboration with Quality Control during QC of components/systems and installation at site/factory.
- Collaboration with the commissioning engineer in preparing test documentation.
- Participation in internal testing and FAT (Factory Acceptance Test).
- Review and approval of external design documentation.
- Approval/rejection of technically received supplier quotations.
- Approval/rejection of proposed changes by subcontractors to approved workshop documentation.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in mechanical engineering (Thermodynamics)
- 3–5 years of relevant experience
- Revit, AutoCAD, MS Office – required
- Magi CAD, Linear, a CFD tool (Reality DC, Ansys or similar) – preferred
- Other skills: attention to detail, problem-solving ability, organization, creativity, teamwork, diligence
- English minimum B2 level
