Position Information

TxDOT Tyler District is looking for a Design Project Coordinator II, III, or IV to join the Advance Transportation Planning and Development team in a project manager role. You’ll be responsible for designing, managing, and coordinating schematic and PS&E for mobility projects throughout our eight-county district. Your daily workload will involve developing and overseeing roadway design projects, from initial scoping & design stage, all the way through the letting and bidding process. Design Project Coordinator III B21 ($54,278 - $87,046 annually)
Design Project Coordinator IV: B22($57,614 - $93,138 annually)

Provides highly skilled technical expertise and oversees multiple design and/or complex building construction projects. Reports to a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Work requires contact with governmental agencies, consultants and construction firms. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence. Design Project Coordinator III - May lead the work of technical employees. Design Project Coordinator IV - Leads the work of technical employees and provides training. Employees are virtually self-supervising and assume accountability for their work.

Essential Duties:

Design Project Coordinator II
- Reviews and oversees plan packages submitted by consultants.
- Coordinates design work among TxDOT entities, consultants and contractors.
- Designs projects, making design calculations and sketches of plans, layouts and typical sections.
- May serve as a lead worker or project leader.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Design Project Coordinator III- all of the above, and
- Serves as project coordinator responsible for coordination of advanced engineering/architectural projects from initiation to completion.
Design Project Coordinator IV- all of the above, and
- Provides training for area of responsibility.
- Serves as lead worker and subject matter expert.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.

Experience:

Design Project Coordinator II
8 YEARS of experience in design, plan preparation, construction inspection, surveying.
Design Project Coordinator III & IV
9 YEARS Design, plan preparation, construction inspection, surveying.
(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Extensive knowledge of
- Computer-aided drafting and design systems
- Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities
- Applicable computer software applications and hardware
Considerable knowledge of
- Higher mathematics
Expert skill in
- Performing basic design and drafting
- Prioritizing projects/workload and meeting deadlines
Proficient skill in
- Planning, assigning, directing, coordinating and reviewing the work of professional, administrative and technical employees
- Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
- Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others
Other Attributes
- Exercises logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; makes decisions that support business objectives and goals

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

- Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
