Job Description

Role Purpose

Corning's Photonics Connectivity Solutions (PCS) business is seeking an experienced technical leader to lead product and solution design for high-precision optical components and assemblies. This role ensures design parameters are optimized for customer specifications, manufacturing feasibility, local/ worldwide assembly processes, and scalable technology development. Working with a global team of engineers will require flexibility and some travel.

  • Own product architecture, design methodology, and technology roadmap for next-generation optical interconnect solutions
  • Lead product and solution design efforts for precision optical components and opto-mechanical assemblies
  • Ensure designs satisfy customer technical requirements, including sub-micron assembly tolerances, precision standards, simplified assembly methods, and automation readiness
  • Develop design guidelines, tolerance strategies, and manufacturability considerations for FAU, MLA, PMLA, fiber shuffle, optical connectivity, and further products related to CPO and NPO applications
  • Establish core design capabilities using a combination of direct hires and external suppliers / contract manufacturing partners
  • Support technical reviews and design alignment with core AI customers, CSPs, AI ecosystem partners, and internal process and product teams
  • Collaborate closely with Process and Equipment, Reliability, Operations, and Customer Interaction teams to align product design with process capability and customer expectation

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design review cadence and drive closure of design actions, risks, and open technical assumptions
  • Translate customer requirements and product concepts into design requirements, design rules, and technical work packages
  • Guide mechanical, thermal, materials, and product design engineers on concept selection, trade-off analysis, tolerance stack-up, and design verification
  • Partner with Process and Equipment teams to ensure new designs can be assembled, measured, qualified, and scaled
  • Support customer-facing technical evaluations and internal leadership updates from a design perspective

Experiences/Education - Required

  • B.S., M.S. in Engineering, or relevant field
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in technology development, precision assembly, opto-mechanical systems, or advanced manufacturing
  • Hands-on experience translating customer or product requirements into manufacturable technology solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to solve challenging technical problems by developing creative solutions with an understanding of the underlying principles
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams and communicate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders
  • Experience leading engineers, vendors, or technical workstreams through development, qualification, and implementation

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Knowledge of opto-mechanical technologies, CPO assembly concept and manufacturing requirements
  • Experience with fiber optics
  • Experience with XCVR, NPO, or CPO system
  • Track record of engagement with customers
