About the position

The Engineering Design Manageris responsible forleading and coordinating engineering design activities acrossgreenfield and brownfieldprojects, ensuring that design deliverables are technically sound, cost-effective, constructible, and aligned with business,safety, and operational requirements. This role provides design leadership, technical assurance, resource planning, stakeholder coordination, and continuous improvement of design processes, tools, standards, and quality practices.

The Engineering Design Manager works closely with discipline engineering leads, project managers, vendors, contractors, and senior management to ensure design priorities are aligned, technically assured, and effectively delivered.

Role Scope & Enterprise Impact

  • Serve as a key member ofProject and Design Engineering leadershipteam,withdemonstratedexperience in Small, Mid Cap Capital Projects, Engineering Management across multiple disciplines including subseaand alsoexposure toresourceplanning. The role willcontributeto strategy, operating model evolution, and long-range workforce and capability planning

  • Act as apotentialpipeline successor forENGINEleadership responsibilities, withdemonstratedability to scale impact beyond a single function or portfolio

  • Influence how ENGINE partners with global assets, major capital projects, and functional organizations across Chevron

  • Help shape the next phase of ENGINE’s growth, maturity, and integration within Chevron’s broader project and operations ecosystem

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary engineering design team, providing direction, coaching, feedback, and career development support.

  • Plan, prioritize, and manage design activities to ensure engineering deliverables are completed safely, accurately, on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

  • Oversee the development and review of design basis documents, calculations, drawings, specifications, technical reports, design change documentation, and engineering deliverables.

  • Coordinate design reviews, technical assurance activities, constructability reviews, risk assessments, value engineering, and interdisciplinary checks.

  • Ensure designscomply withapplicable codes, standards, regulatory requirements, company specifications, safety requirements, and quality procedures.

  • Work closely with project managers, discipline leads, operations, construction, procurement, vendors, and contractors to align design solutions with projectobjectivesand execution plans.

  • Manage design resources, workload allocation, capability development, staffing needs, and succession planning for the designengineeringteam.

  • Identifydesign risks, interface issues, technical constraints, and opportunities for optimization, and lead the development of practical mitigation plans.

  • Support project planning, cost control, schedule management, scope definition, change management, and progress reporting for design activities.

  • Drive continuous improvement in design processes, engineering tools, digital workflows, lessons learned, standardization, and design quality.

  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, innovation, inclusion, and technical excellence.

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineeringor a related technical discipline.

  • Minimum15years of relevant experience in engineering, project management, operations, or related technical domains

  • Significant experiencein engineering design, design delivery, technical assurance, or project execution within a relevant industry.

  • Demonstrated experience leading design teams, coordinating multidisciplinary deliverables, and managing design interfaces across projects.

  • Strong understanding of design standards, engineering workflows, design reviews, safety requirements, quality systems, and regulatory compliance.

  • Experience with design tools, engineering document control, drawing management, change management, and design deliverable planning.

  • Proven ability to manage design budgets, schedules, resources, risks, priorities, and stakeholder expectations.

Domain Experience (one or more of the following)

  • Senior engineering or project leadership supporting major capital projects and programsacross geographies

  • Leadership of multi-discipline engineering or project delivery organizations within operating assets or globalcentres

  • Oversight of multiple engineering and project management functions (e.g., project engineering, discipline engineering, construction support, digital engineering)

  • Enterprise accountability for cost, schedule, quality, and safety outcomes across large portfolios

  • Collaboration:Works effectively across disciplines, functions, locations, and organisational boundaries.

  • Continuous improvement:Improves design processes, tools, standards, templates, workflows, and team effectiveness.
