In Graphics and Packaging team, we design and develop customer facing graphics and packaging solutions for all Dyson products to deliver great out of box experience. As part of a matrix RDD organisation, and within the Design Engineering function, Graphics and Packaging is large-scale team focussed on the design and development of product colour, graphics, literature, and packaging. Based in Global Development Campus, Johor Bahru and our Philippines Development Centre (PDC), this international team provides the capability to pick up graphics and packing concepts from their UK based counterparts and develop these into designs that can be efficiently manufactured at scale.

Position Overview:

As a Packaging Sustainability Engineer, you will be responsible for driving sustainability initiatives across Dyson’s packaging portfolio. You will lead efforts to ensure packaging meets recycled content and recyclability standards across global markets, stay ahead of evolving sustainability regulations, and manage packaging logo and labelling requirements. You will also be responsible for establishing and maintaining robust processes and governance frameworks to ensure consistent and compliant sustainability practices across all packaging programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sustainability Strategy & Leadership: Define and lead Dyson’s packaging sustainability strategy and roadmap. Act as subject matter expert advising senior stakeholders. Drive cross-category alignment on sustainability requirements.
  • Sustainability Reporting & Analysis: Lead development and governance of sustainability SOPs and workflows. Develop and maintain recycled content, recyclability, EPR, PPWR reports, etc for packaging across different markets. Analyse packaging materials and formats to assess environmental impact and compliance.
  • Regulatory & Market Compliance: Monitor global sustainability regulations and market-specific requirements. Ensure packaging designs meet local and international environmental standards.
  • Logo & Labelling Management: Manage sustainability-related logos and labelling requirements for packaging. Ensure correct usage and documentation in line with market expectations.
  • Process Development & Governance: Establish standardized processes for sustainability data collection, reporting, and validation. Define and implement governance frameworks to ensure consistent application of sustainability requirements across projects. Develop SOPs and best practices for packaging sustainability workflows.
  • Material Selection & Innovation: Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to identify sustainable packaging materials. Evaluate materials based on performance, cost, and environmental impact.
  • Testing & Validation: Support validation of packaging materials and designs through performance and recyclability testing. Work with verification engineers to ensure packaging meets product and sustainability requirements.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with packaging development engineers, compliance team, category team to align sustainability goals. Provide technical support and guidance on sustainable packaging solutions.
  • Documentation & Continuous Improvement: Maintain accurate records of sustainability reports, specifications, and market requirements. Identify opportunities for improvement and innovation in packaging sustainability. Lead initiatives to improve data accuracy, traceability, and reporting efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Environmental Science, Materials Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in packaging sustainability or related roles.
  • Strong understanding of packaging materials, recycling processes, and sustainability standards.
  • Experience in process development and governance implementation.
  • Familiarity with global packaging regulations and environmental certifications.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in sustainability reporting tools and data analysis platforms.
