The Design Engineer is responsible for the industrialization and design support of new and redesigned valve products manufactured in Asia, owning technical activities across the full product lifecycle from NPI through change management and optimization.

Roles, Responsibilities and Job Expectations:

  • Responsible for the Industrialization-design of new developed or re-designed products produced in Asia and supporting design related activities throughout the product life cycle of selected valve series.
  • Demonstrate exceptional product knowledge, encompassing design, machining, assembly, and related processes.
  • Contribute to relocation and customization projects by translating customer-specific requests into deliverables.
  • Support the Product & Quality team in identifying root causes and providing technical advice. Assist customers alongside product management and application engineers.
  • Design test equipment for end-of-line product qualification.
  • Exhibit a strong sense of responsibility and the ability to work independently, taking technical ownership of assigned products.
  • Collaborate closely with industrialization project managers, HQ-design engineers, and product engineers to industrialize new standard and customer-specific products.
  • Establish and manage technical product documentation required for product manufacturing.
  • Engage in product optimization through collaboration with HQ-design engineers.
  • Contribute to product change management to ensure products remain up to date.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing departments, supply quality engineers, and project buyers to verify and optimize manufacturability.
  • Conduct design reviews and implement Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) principles at the cross-departmental level and participating in PFMEA, DFMEA, and design walkthrough sessions.
  • Provide technical support in cost improvement projects.
  • Oversee engineering product documentation and coordinate with the engineering change department for effective ECR/ECN implementation on the production floor.
  • Provide technical support to new product introduction (NPI) projects until handoff to operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments in DFMEA/PFMEA activities and design walkthroughs.
  • Support cost improvement initiatives by offering technical expertise.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Proficiency in engineering principles, mechanical design, and relevant software tools such as CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software, simulation tools, and analysis software.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, preferably with experience using NX, as well as PLM systems.
  • Knowledge of design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles.
  • Strong analytical abilities to assess design challenges, conduct feasibility studies, and analyze data.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Able to present ideas, explain technical concepts, and engage in effective communication both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of project management principles and experience in managing design projects.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work effectively to meet project deadlines and deliverables.
  • A mindset of continuous learning, and the flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic and changing environment.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality designs. Knowledge of quality assurance processes and standards.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and demonstrate leadership qualities when required.

Preferred requirements:

  • Knowledge of vacuum industry technology is highly advantageous.
  • Experience in designing and applying mechatronic components such as motors, sensors, heaters, etc.
  • Experience in the production of cast parts, sheet metal parts, injection molding parts, and similar components will be considered a valuable addition.
  • The ideal candidate should possess agility and creativity, be self-motivated, and have a strong focus on meeting customer needs.
