The Solar Turbines, Incorporated Package Refurbishment and Upgrades (PRU) Engineering team provides engineered solutions in support of the execution of aftermarket business on customer-specific sales orders. PRU engineers work as part of a multi-disciplined project team to execute orders ranging from minor package system upgrades through in-situ refurbishment of entire packages (See our website here for more details). All roles within PRU Engineering use established, standard designs and provide regular feedback to the groups that maintain these standard design “building blocks” to better meet our customers’ needs.

Mechanical Design Engineer (MDE)

  • Responsible for the mechanical design of package upgrades and retrofits.

  • Collaborate with various engineering, fabrication, assembly operations, logistics, and field installation personnel to ensure that project designs are high quality, safe, and cost-effective.

  • Independently gathering and analyzing relevant data and defining project issues in engineering terms with minimal technical direction.

  • Facilitation of design reviews with peers and team members are also expected.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical Preferred)

What You Have (Basic Requirements)

  • Experience with turbomachinery products (gas turbines, centrifugal compressors, generators/alternators, etc.)

  • Experience with 3D CAD programs for mechanical design (PTC Creo)

  • Ability to write and communicate ideas clearly

  • Ability to work well with others, team spirit, and flexibility with personal schedule to meet deadlines

What will set you apart (Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of engineering experience.

  • Good understanding of purpose and function of hydromechanical system: fuel, start, lube, air, compressor seal, fire and gas detection, enclosure ventilation, and all other package systems that support gas turbine and driven equipment operation.

  • Attention to detail concerning component specifications, certifications, and documentation.

  • Good understanding of fluid flow/pressure/velocity in pipes and tubing (compressible and incompressible flows) in an open system and associated calculations.

  • Good understanding of pump theories and calculations.

  • Good understanding of manufacturing and testing processes.

  • Clear and concise communication skills.

  • Capacity to work in a team environment.

  • Flexibility to handle multiple tasks and competing priorities.

Pay Range:

$77,264.00 - $115,896.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
