About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Design Director (Architecture) to lead the delivery of major projects across the UK and internationally.
This is a pivotal leadership role focused on growing client relationships, winning work, and leading high-performing teams. You will be recognised as a design and thought leader in your sector and contribute to the wider EMEA strategy.
What You’ll Be Doing
Business Development & Clients
- Act as a brand ambassador, identifying and converting new opportunities
- Build a strong personal network and sector profile
- Develop long-term client relationships, leading engagement from opportunity through to delivery
- Travel internationally to support client development and key project interactions
Design Leadership
- Lead and elevate design quality across all projects
- Collaborate across teams to deliver integrated design solutions
- Drive innovation through technology, sustainability, and evolving design approaches
Financial & Project Performance
- Deliver strong financial performance across your team
- Maintain oversight of fees, scope, programmes, and contractual terms
- Ensure projects are delivered efficiently, profitably, and to agreed standards
- Support proactive debt management and client accountability
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, inspire and develop high-performing teams
- Empower senior team members to deliver and delegate effectively
- Coach and mentor talent across the studio and wider business
- Role model Benoy’s values and collaborative culture
Contribution to the Practice
- Shape the capability and strategic direction of the Newark studio
- Contribute to Benoy’s intellectual property and design thinking
- Ensure effective use of resources and compliance with professional standards
- Take ownership of key project approvals and statutory sign-off
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in a senior architectural leadership role
- Strong track record in winning work and developing clients
- Experience delivering complex, high-value architectural projects
- Commercial awareness and financial management capability
- Passion for design innovation, sustainability, and emerging technologies
- A collaborative leadership style with a focus on team development
- Chartered Architect (ARB/RIBA or equivalent) preferred
