The Role

We are on the lookout for a Design Assistant to join our First Retail (mainline) Accessories Design team. As a key support to the Design team, you’ll play a hands-on role across the full product lifecycle from concept through to delivery. This role sits across Design and Product Development, supporting the execution of accessories across men’s and women’s ranges, including wallets, belts, hats, scarves, umbrellas and more.

You’ll be instrumental in keeping development on track, owning leather, hardware and trim approvals, and ensuring seamless communication with offshore suppliers. With a strong focus on detail, organisation and timelines, you’ll help bring products to life while keeping systems, documentation and reporting accurate and up to date.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support the Design team across all stages of the design and development process
  • Manage and track leather, trims and hardware development, ensuring approvals and timelines are met
  • Liaise with offshore suppliers to follow up on samples, materials and development progress
  • Prepare presentation packs, briefing documents, tech packs and sample set-ups
  • Maintain and update range overviews, trackers and reporting systems with accuracy
  • Coordinate sample dispatch, tracking and invoice processing
  • Assist with material boards, print artwork and hardware development
  • Collaborate closely with Design, Production and Merchandise teams
  • Monitor critical path timelines, flagging risks and delays early
  • Maintain an organised workspace and ensure all samples and materials are well managed

What we are looking for:

  • 1+ years’ experience in a Design Assistant role within fashion or accessories
  • Tertiary qualification in fashion, design, graphics or a related field
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills with high attention to detail
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Strong administrative capability and accuracy in managing data and documentation
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence working with offshore suppliers
  • Proactive, solution-focused mindset with strong problem-solving ability
  • A collaborative approach and ability to build strong cross-functional relationships

Benefits and Culture:

In joining Oroton, you will be joining a group of talented, fun and supportive individuals who are all committed to their craft and to the enduring success of this Australian iconic brand. You will also enjoy:

  • Flexible working options for a hybrid approach to work
  • Additional leave policy of 4 Recharge days per year, on top of annual leave entitlements
  • Birthday leave
  • Learning & development opportunities, with internal promotions a priority
  • Generous product discounts and lifestyle benefits (fitness membership discounts, salary packaging options + more!)
  • 12 weeks Paid Parental Leave for eligible employees
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Program and well-being initiatives

If you’re detail-driven, creatively curious and ready to bring products to life, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now to join the World of Oroton.
