Job Description

The Design Assistant provides architectural design, 3D modelling, visualization, documentation, and project coordination support across American Hospital Dubai and assigned Group projects. The role assists in translating design concepts into accurate drawings, 3D models, presentations, material selections, and technical documentation while supporting the coordination of design activities with internal stakeholders, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and project teams.

The position contributes to the delivery of functional, aesthetically appropriate, safe, and high-quality healthcare and corporate environments in accordance with approved design standards, project requirements, and organizational objectives.

Design Development

  • Supports the Group Director of Interior Design and Architecture in developing architectural and interior design concepts, space layouts, mood boards, material palettes, design presentations, and visual proposals for new developments, renovations, and refurbishment projects.
  • Produces accurate 2D drawings, 3D models, rendered perspectives, walkthroughs, and presentation materials to communicate design intent to management, project teams, consultants, and other stakeholders.
  • Updates architectural models and drawings based on design reviews, site conditions, stakeholder feedback, and approved changes while maintaining consistency with the approved design concept.

Design Coordination and Technical Support

  • Assists in reviewing architectural, interior, furniture, finishes, and related consultant drawings for general alignment with approved design requirements and identifies discrepancies for review by the Group Director of Interior Design and Architecture .
  • Supports coordination with Projects, Facilities Management, Biomedical Engineering, IT, Infection Prevention, clinical departments, consultants, contractors, and suppliers where design requirements interface with operational or technical needs.
  • Assists with preparation of room layouts, furniture plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, finish schedules, design details, and other documentation required to support project implementation.

Project and Site Support

  • Maintains design schedules, drawing registers, material submissions, sample records, design trackers, action logs, and other project documentation to support timely completion of assigned design activities.
  • Participates in site visits, measurements, inspections, mock-up reviews, snagging activities, and progress meetings; records observations and follows up on assigned design-related actions.
  • Supports review of materials, finishes, furniture, fixtures, equipment, signage, and samples to confirm general alignment with approved design intent, functionality, durability, maintainability, and healthcare environment requirements.

Documentation and Stakeholder Support

  • Prepares design presentations, reports, concept boards, briefing materials, meeting minutes, drawing packages, and other documentation required for management and project reviews.
  • Maintains organized and current electronic design files, drawings, models, specifications, approvals, revisions, and reference materials with appropriate document and version control.
  • Coordinates with internal departments and external parties to obtain information, drawings, samples, technical data, and approvals required by the Group Director of Interior Design and Architecture and follows up on outstanding deliverables.

Quality and Continuous Improvement

  • Supports design solutions that promote patient experience, accessibility, infection prevention, safety, operational efficiency, sustainability, and appropriate use of materials within healthcare environments.
  • Maintains awareness of contemporary architecture, interior design, healthcare design, visualization technologies, materials, and sustainable design practices and recommends relevant ideas for consideration.
  • Performs other architectural, design, visualization, project coordination, and administrative duties assigned by the Group Director of Interior Design and Architecture .
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture is required.
  • Proficiency in architectural drafting and 3D modelling software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, 3ds Max, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in rendering and visualization applications such as Lumion, Enscape, V-Ray, or equivalent is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Microsoft PowerPoint, and other design presentation tools is preferred.
  • Good understanding of architectural drawings, space planning, materials, finishes, furniture, and basic construction detailing.
  • Awareness of healthcare design, accessibility, life safety, infection prevention, sustainability, and evidence-based design principles is preferred.
  • Strong visualization, creativity, attention to detail, organization, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple design assignments, incorporate feedback accurately, and work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Up to two (2) years of experience in architecture, interior design, 3D visualization, design consultancy, or project support is preferred; strong fresh graduates with a relevant design portfolio may be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience producing architectural drawings, 3D models, rendered perspectives, design presentations, and space-planning concepts.
  • Exposure to healthcare, hospitality, commercial, corporate, or other complex interior environments is advantageous.
  • Experience participating in site surveys, design coordination, material selection, drawing revisions, and consultant or contractor coordination is preferred.
  • A portfolio demonstrating architectural design, 3D modelling, rendering, visualization, and presentation capabilities is required.
