Job Description

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

  • Person will lead and manage production planning and scheduling activities aligning with business priorities to ensure timely and efficient manufacturing output.
  • Key deliverables include continuous output monitoring and reporting through Management Information Systems (MIS) to provide accurate insights for decision-making and performance evaluation.
  • Overseeing system-driven quality assurance processes and thorough documentation ensures compliance with strict quality standards while continuously identifying opportunities for process improvements.
  • Optimising manpower utilisation through strategic allocation and regular reconciliation fosters a productive and motivated workforce. Responsibilities also include managing tooling and consumable costs to maintain budgetary targets.
  • Driving safety management via systemised approaches safeguards employee well-being and maintains compliance with regulatory standards. The role demands extensive involvement in implementing Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) within the machine shop, including autonomous maintenance scheduling and monitoring.
  • The Manager will actively contribute to the development of team members by facilitating targeted training programmes, promoting skill matrix upgradation, and nurturing a culture grounded in Kaizen principles to drive continuous improvement.
  • Significant exposure to lean manufacturing best practices across multiple complex systems is essential, supporting operational efficiency and minimising waste. The role requires strong technical expertise in CNC, VMC, and HMC machinery, alongside proficiency in machining steel and castings.

Education Qualification

Candidates are expected to hold a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) or Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree specialising in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline. A Master of Technology (MTech) qualification with a focus on manufacturing, production engineering, or mechanical systems is highly regarded and will provide significant advantage.

The educational background should equip the candidate with robust theoretical knowledge as well as practical insights into mechanical design, manufacturing processes, and industrial engineering principles.

Continuous professional development through certifications or training in areas such as lean manufacturing, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Six Sigma, and quality management will be beneficial for excelling in this role.

General Experience

A minimum of 8 years’ experience is required in managing operations within a machine shop environment, demonstrating proficiency in production planning, scheduling, and resource management.

Experience should encompass hands-on involvement with CNC, VMC, and HMC machines, coupled with an understanding of machining different materials including steel and castings.

Candidates are expected to have worked within sectors such as the automobile or tractor industries, reflecting familiarity with complex manufacturing processes, safety standards, and quality control methodologies.

Demonstrated experience in implementing Lean manufacturing concepts, TPM activities, and Kaizen initiatives in a multi-system complex workplace will be advantageous.

Critical Experience

It is critical that candidates possess specialised experience in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) with hands-on exposure to autonomous maintenance scheduling within machine shops.

Expertise in system-driven quality assurance activities, including maintaining comprehensive documentation and performing rigorous quality control checks, is essential for ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.

The role requires an adept understanding of lean strengthening practices applied across multiple complex systems, enabling sustained operational efficiency and waste reduction.

Strong technical skills and practical knowledge in operating and managing CNC, Vertical Machining Centres (VMC), and Horizontal Machining Centres (HMC) machines, alongside machining expertise on steel and cast components, are necessary for success in this position.
