Job Description

Deputy Manager - Wraparound Childcare in Thames Ditton - Breakfast & After School Club

£13-£16 per hour (dependent on experience and qualifications) plus benefits. Annual take home salary = £20,280-£24,960 (£25,350-£31,200 Full-Time Equivalent)

Location: Thames Ditton, Surrey, near Kingston upon Thames and Esher.

Hours: 6:45am-9:15am and 2pm-7pm Monday to Thursday. No Friday or weekend work! (7.5 hours a day/30 hours a week).

Our client is a wraparound childcare provider running breakfast, after school and holiday clubs for children aged 4 to 11 in the heart of Thames Ditton. Launched just over a year ago, they've grown quickly and have seen incredible success and are fully booked three days a week from September! They're now looking for an Assistant/Deputy Manager to work alongside the established management team to help lead the next stage of that growth.

This is a genuinely varied role. One minute you're leading a breakfast club session, the next you're supporting a member of staff through their induction, and the next you're planning the theme for the summer holiday clubs. The setting runs its own "Clubs Within the Club" programme, giving children access to sports, performing arts, cooking, science, languages, and chess classes alongside the usual indoor and outdoor activities - no two weeks look the same! The team is actively encouraged to bring their own ideas to the table rather than just follow a script, and with up to 80 children attending after school and up to 40 at breakfast club, there's a need for variety and fun!

On offer is a supportive, family-focused team, made up of the owner, current management team, permanent activity staff, plus a team of bank staff. It's a busy, sociable setting where the leadership shown really counts, and is one that is built around a genuinely warm, community-focused culture. This is a truly exciting opportunity to help shape a growing provision, and a business that already knows what success looks like!

Working pattern: Monday to Thursday, 6:45am-9:15am and 2pm-7pm (7.5 hours a day), 30 hours a week, all year round, with no Friday or weekend work.

Key responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Support the Breakfast and After School Managers with day-to-day operations and confidently run the setting in their absence, including supervising and motivating the team of Play Leaders.

  • Childcare and play: Plan and deliver engaging activities for children aged 4 to 11, including contributing to themed holiday club programmes and outings.

  • Safeguarding and compliance: Safeguard the welfare of all children, maintain accurate records, and ensure the setting meets EYFS, Ofsted, and Health and Safety requirements.

  • Parent and school relationships: Build positive relationships with parents, carers and schools, and ensure children are safely signed in and out.

  • Administration: Keep registers and records up to date, support staff rotas, and use booking and IT systems confidently.

About you:

  • Qualified: A recognised Level 3 qualification in Teaching, Childcare or Playwork.

  • Experienced: At least two years working with children aged 4 to 11, including experience supervising or leading a team, whether as a Deputy Manager, Assistant Manager or similar.

  • Safeguarding minded: Strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection, with excellent behaviour management skills.

  • Travel: A full UK driving licence is essential.

  • Sector background: Experience in playwork, wraparound childcare or holiday camps would be ideal, though not essential.

What's in it for you:

  • A 40% childcare discount for your own children.

  • Company pension, employee discount, and on-site parking.

  • Ongoing training and real opportunities for professional development.

  • No Friday or weekend working, with weekday hours only.

  • 28 days' holiday including bank holidays.

There's a planned start date of 1st September, with staff training taking place on 28th August. The right person is worth waiting for.
