Our Office for Institutional Equity and Title IX (IEX) is seeking a Deputy Title IX & Title VI Coordinator to join our team.

Our office is dedicated to promoting equity at Carnegie Mellon University, which includes coordinating the University's efforts to prevent and effectively respond to forms of discrimination, bias, and sexual misconduct, including sexual assault, sexual exploitation, sexual harassment, dating and domestic violence, and stalking, which impact community members.

We also address reports of bias through the Campus Climate and Bias Protocol, which responds to behaviors that (may) negatively impact campus culture (or climate) but may not require formal university action. We are a close knit team that looks to support each other and are excited to begin our recruitment for our newest team member!

The Deputy Title IX and Title VI Coordinator reports to the Assistant Vice Provost and Title IX/Title VI Coordinator will have day-to-day management and oversight of intake, triage, and response to reports made to the Institutional Equity Office that fall under the jurisdiction of the university’s Discriminatory and Sexual Misconduct Policy and Campus Climate and Bias Reporting Protocol. This includes serving as an Intake Officer for new reports, overseeing and managing investigations, and serving as a Process Coordinator for cases with formal resolutions.

The position will supervise two investigators, a case administrator, and a case manager within the Institutional Equity Office.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day implementation of the university’s Discriminatory and Sexual Misconduct Policy and Campus Climate and Bias Reporting Protocol
  • Serve as Intake Officer for new reports to the Institutional Equity and Title IX office related to Title IX and Title VI conduct.
  • Present programs and trainings about compliance with federal, state, and local laws and university policies.
  • Work with team members to create internal process and guidance documents for policy compliance.
  • Attend meetings with campus administrators to discuss cases, as needed.
  • Supervise Investigators, Case Manager, and Case Administrator for cases related to Title IX and Title VI conduct.
  • Ensure all documents and materials are carefully reviewed and compliant with university policy.
  • Participate in process coordination for formal resolutions
  • Train university officials as the need arises by Title IX and other laws.
  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders to assess patterns of misconduct across campus and identify strategies to prevent and respond to emerging behaviors
  • Act as an additional point of contact for CMU stakeholders to address instances of bias, discrimination, and/or sexual misconduct.
  • Assist in creating annual reports that accurately reflect office work

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Juris Doctor is preferred
  • Five years of professional experience in civil rights compliance, investigations or related work.
  • Knowledge of and experience with federal statutes, including Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, VAWA, Clery Act, FERPA, particularly how these statutes interplay with investigations or advising within higher education.
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills, with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and evaluate urgent situations to prioritize work projects.
  • Demonstrates dedication to fair process and unbiased approaches towards informal and formal resolutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of constituents from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, identities, nationalities, and life experiences.
  • Supervisory experience with strong team building and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Restorative Practices and Informal Resolutions preferred
  • A combination of education and meaningful experience from which comparable knowledge is proven may be considered.
