Life at Next is fast-paced, varied and challenging and takes a large, talented and efficient operation to keep our 500+ retail stores stocked, deliver our worldwide online offer and strengthen the growing partnerships with over 1,000 brands and the third party customers using the Next’s Total Platform.

You’ll be joining a business which pushes boundaries and pioneers the way. A lot has changed here at Next over the last four decades. One thing that has remained constant is our strong people culture, built around a solid set of company values.

About the Role

Our Deputy Site Managers play a key role in helping us grow and succeed. It is their job to ensure that the operation runs effectively and efficiently.

As an experienced senior manager, you will be responsible for managing around 600 employees, both directly and indirectly across a shift operation. In addition, the Deputy Site Manager will be required to deputise for the Site Operations Manager and run a site for periods of time during the operational calendar, with significant budgetary responsibility.

This is a key “hands on” leadership role which supports the Site Operations Manager in the course of the daily operational management. The role entails ensuring all operational efficiency targets are achieved whilst identifying and minimising risk and maintaining a safe environment and high quality standards.

Effective communication and positive relationship building skills are critical, as is the motivation and desire to develop the team in order to achieve success. You will plan and control an effective and productive site through the relevant control of all resources, ensuring all operational deadlines and standards are met. A proactive manager, you will be key in driving change and improvement throughout the operation.

Our Warehouses are large, fast paced 24 hour operations, so there will often be a need for you to make quick operational decisions and to use your initiative. Drawing on your previous management experience in a similar role, you will use your extensive operational knowledge to set achievable seasonal targets for your division, whilst ensuring that we maintain a safe working environment and high quality standards. Working closely with the Senior Management Team and Trade Unions where required, you will naturally identify and drive continuous improvements to meet our ambitious plans for the future of Next Distribution.

We are looking for a strong and positive leader, able to manage multiple projects, priorities and people. Leading by example, you will be highly motivated, with the vision and capability to see and understand the bigger picture. Alongside your extensive experience of retail and online logistics and warehouse automation in a similar role, you will be an influential manager, instrumental in leading and driving change while consistently striving to exceed the expectations of Next directors, partners and customers.

You know Next, but did you know we’re a FTSE-100 retail company employing over 35,000 people across the UK and Ireland. We’re the UK’s 2nd largest fashion retailer and for Kidswear we’re the market leader. At the last count we have over 500 stores, plus the Next Online and it’s now possible to buy on-line from over 70 countries around the world! So we’ve gone global!
