Deputy Project Manager

Department: Operations

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: MRS- UTA

Reporting To: Josh LaFleur

Compensation: $110,000 - $130,000 / year


Modern Railway Systems (a subsidiary of Stacy Witbeck) is looking for a Deputy Project Manager in the Utah market to support our growing region. This role will support the lead Project Manager by overseeing daily operations, managing schedules, controlling budgets, and coordinating on-site construction activities to ensure project milestones are met. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Documentation, Project Controls & Administration

  • Maintain project records, including contracts, drawings, specifications, submittals, and change orders.
  • Assist with tracking Requests for Information (RFIs), maintaining RFI logs, and preparing for project closeout.
  • Contract Exposure: Understanding the financial/cost risks, schedule, performance requirements, liability etc.

Schedule & Budget Support

  • Assist in developing and updating project schedules (e.g., 3-week look-aheads).
  • Monitoring project costs. Cost accounting and balance principals.
  • Assist with Estimating
  • Invoicing and forecasting--tracking financial markers of job profitability and margin.

Field Coordination

  • Liaise between office and field staff, coordinate subcontractors, and manage material deliveries.

Safety & Quality Control

  • Participate in site safety walks, enforce safety protocols, and ensure work meets quality standards.

Team and Meeting Management

  • Organizing, leading and communicating with diverse stakeholders, owners, contractors, architects, and field personnel.
  • Fostering collaboration, defining roles, setting structured agendas, executing action items and the tracking and reporting of progress.
  • Working on a regular basis with the Client to support there needs are being met and projects are successful.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

**Please note--Requirements are essential, but preferences have flexibility. **

Requirements:

  • BS Degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or other relevant engineering discipline.
  • Excellent communication skills are required. Ability to listen, engage, and influence is vital;
  • 5+ years of experience as a Project Engineer working on public works projects with both field and office responsibilities is required.
  • 1+ year of estimating experience in heavy civil project exposure.
  • U.S. Drivers License in good standing.
  • Occasional Travel for Corporate Meetings and Trainings.

Preferences:

  • 8-12 years' total experience and a previously held role as project engineer.
  • Intermediate to advanced understanding of P6/Vista/Viewpoint, HeavyBid, HCSS, estimating software, Bluebeam, Excel.
  • Prior exposure to rail systems including communications and signaling.
