Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer, which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security.
We currently have an opportunity for a Deputy Product Manager in Canberra to work on Joint projects
What You’ll Do
This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:
Support the IBS Product Manager by preparing briefing materials, high‑level schedules, reporting artefacts and documentation required for IBS Sustainment delivery.
Contribute to product strategy and planning, including developing and maintaining Product/Program plans, management documents, schedules, risk registers and quality artefacts.
Participate in briefings, workshops and stakeholder engagements, providing informed input and representing the product team effectively.
Assist in capability development activities, including identifying and realising Defence capability benefits, conducting risk assessments and maintaining product reporting.
Engage with internal and external stakeholders, providing product advice, drafting documentation and delivering written/oral briefings to senior leadership with support from the IBS Product Manager.
What You’ll Bring
Relevant tertiary qualifications with strong domain knowledge aligned to the program/product management environment.
Recognised program or product management certification, such as AIPM‑registered project manager or equivalent professional accreditation.
Current and proven experience in project/product management, demonstrating capability to manage complex Defence‑related programs.
Strong understanding of Australian and international standards, regulations and Defence methodologies, appropriate to the required skill level.
Highly desirable knowledge, including postgraduate qualifications, familiarity with military Command and Control technologies and an understanding of tactical data links and Defence Capability Life Cycle.
Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
