About the job

A senior role at the heart of Jefferies GmbH’s second line of defence. As deputy MLRO, you will oversee the AML, CTF, and financial crime framework, advise senior leadership, and supervise one direct FTE as part of the Financial Crime Compliance team. You will directly report into the Head of Compliance and MLRO of Jefferies GmbH.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the 2nd line Financial Crime team, setting strategy and priorities across AML, CTF, sanctions, and financial crime risk across Jefferies GmbH locations (Frankfurt head office and eight branches).
  • Shape and maintain a robust AML/CTF framework aligned to Jefferies GmbH’s risk appetite and regulatory expectations.
  • Provide expert advice and challenge to client onboarding, the business and senior management on emerging financial crime risks and control effectiveness.
  • Oversee AML/CTF policies, procedures, transaction monitoring, and risk reporting (including annual MLRO report) to Committees and Management Board.
  • Coordinate the annual AML/CTF risk assessment with external service provider.
  • Reviewing high-risk client relationships, CDD waivers, and SARs.
  • Assist the MLRO in liaising with BaFin, Bundesbank, and other regulators in AML/CTF matters.
  • Coordinating reviews, audits (internal and external), and inspections.
  • Drive AML/CTF training, foster a strong compliance culture, and act as primary internal contact for financial crime matters.
  • Be the dedicated service receiver for outsourced activities within the Financial Crime Compliance team, track KPIs and liaise with other group entities.
  • Execute AML/CTF controls and initiatives under the Jefferies GmbH Compliance Plan.

What do we expect from you?

  • Extensive financial crime compliance experience, with at least 7 years in a senior AML/CTF role in German investment banking.
  • Deep practical knowledge of German and EU regulatory framework.
  • Strong experience managing AML/CTF frameworks, transaction monitoring, SAR governance, and regulatory engagement.
  • Can-do attitude with excellent judgement and confidence to make and defend risk-based decisions.
  • Highly analytical, able to assess complex financial crime structures, situations and typologies effectively.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with regulators and senior management.
  • High personal integrity, resilience, and commitment to regulatory standards and ethical conduct.
