OKX’s Legal team provides legal advice and guidance to the company across all coverage areas and geographic locations, and supports business growth and development by working with all teams within the company to help them achieve their goals. We are a high-functioning, collaborative and fast-paced group of lawyers who enjoy the cutting-edge nature of our work and our industry.

Our Americas Legal team is the primary legal partner to OKX's regulated businesses across the Americas region, advising on a broad range of topics including regulatory strategy, regulatory licensing, product launches, strategic partnerships and corporate matters. The Americas Legal team works cross-functionally with leaders across the company to help build and scale an innovative and compliant OKX platform.

About the Opportunity

This is an essential, high-profile role at one of the fastest-growing global cryptocurrency exchanges based in San Jose, CA. The Deputy General Counsel will play a central role in proactively shaping OKX's regulatory and legal strategy in the US and across the Americas. The Deputy General Counsel will act as a key partner and provide day-to-day counsel to senior business leadership of OKX's US business, including the coordination of efforts with Compliance, Risk, Operations, Finance and other functions. The Deputy General Counsel will stay abreast of all regulatory changes applicable to the digital asset space in the US, promptly communicate developments to OKX's senior business leadership, and help guide the business in identifying growth opportunities in the US. The position will coordinate the efforts of the legal function serving OKX's business in the US as well as the Americas more broadly, and will report to OKX's VP, Legal.

You'll work at the intersection of law, regulations, and product innovation - driving complex licensing initiatives, advising senior stakeholders on questions without clear precedent, and helping the business move quickly through an evolving regulatory landscape. What You’ll Be Doing

• Develop and advance a best-in-class regulatory strategy in the US and across the Americas, including the development and maintenance of strong relationships with regulators.
• Engage directly with regulators and business counterparties as a key point of contact for OKX, as well as interacting on a daily basis with senior executives at OKX.
• Identify growth opportunities and strategic initiatives based on proactive, timely, actionable analysis of US regulatory developments.
• Lead and manage attorneys covering various Americas regions so that legal efforts are coordinated and consistently achieve successful outcomes.
• Manage a wide range of legal requests and advise on legal risk with an eye toward achieving the strategic goals of the company's regional business leaders.

What We Look For In You

• Strong communication and leadership skills, and excellent judgment
• Self-starter who can contribute as both an individual and a team member, with limited reliance upon external counsel.
• Membership with a US state bar or equivalent.
• 12+ years of regulatory experience dealing with financial services laws and regulations in a highly-regulated environment.
• Prior experience can be in-house at a regulated financial firm or in the crypto industry (preferable), at a top-tier law firm, and/or at a regulator.
• Experience driving projects to completion on expedited timelines.
• Must be highly-driven, proactive, responsive and precise.
• Experience making strategic recommendations to senior management and senior legal team members.
• Comfortable navigating legal ambiguity.
• Experience advising on cross-jurisdictional legal and regulatory matters.
• Supervisory experience, and in particular, experience managing other attorneys.
• Enthusiastic about blockchain technology with experience advising on laws and regulations applicable in the crypto context.
• Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, growth-stage and multi-cultural environment and across global time zones.
• Ability to effectively advise and build trust with business teams.
• Superior organizational skills.

Nice to Haves

• Expertise in the US securities laws and regulations.
• Prior in-house experience in a financial services or crypto firm.

• The salary range for this position is $250,444 - $360,639
• The salary offered depends on a variety of factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location. In addition to the salary, a performance bonus and long-term incentives may be provided as part of the compensation package, as well as a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
