The opportunity

As the Deputy Finance Manager - Business Partnering you’ll play a key role in delivering value-added financial management and business partnering support across Research Units, Programs and Enterprise Support areas.

You will provide trusted financial advice and oversight across compliance, revenue, commercial activities, investment, risk and performance, helping leaders make informed decisions and achieve strategic objectives.

High-level duties include

• Support the Finance Manager to develop a financial strategy that enables delivery of the overall RU strategy.
• Under limited direction, use technical expertise to lead a range of financial support activities with independence of action.
• Support the Finance Manager with the budget process.
• Analyse RU pipeline and actively engage appropriate stakeholders to build the revenue forecast & out year external revenue budgets. Forecast projected outcomes and recommend corrective actions, including review RU revenue/expenditure forecasts and identify key risks & strategies.
• Prepare monthly management reports including commentary, issues to escalate, mitigation options and recommendations.
• Support the Finance Manager and Management Team for larger scale commercial transactions including submissions to Major Transaction Committee. Ensure interaction with the appropriate stakeholders to positively influence commercial terms & conditions of client agreements particularly in respect to price, cash flow, and compliance reporting.
• Manage the RU salary forecast including liaison with HR Partnering and Managers on recruitment & cessations.
• Key responsibilities may change or evolve to support the success of the Finance function in the Enterprise organisational model.

Salary: AU$118,102 – AU$127,808 per annum (pro rata for part-time), plus 15.4% superannuation

As the successful candidate, you will bring:

Essential criteria

• A tertiary qualification in accounting or finance or relevant work experience in a financial environment.
• Proven ability to participate as an effective team member and ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders to achieve a high level of trust and respect to influence outcomes and communicate findings.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and manage financial risk, provide mitigation strategies, and where appropriate escalate to Research Unit Leaders.
• Ability to prepare and communicate insightful commentary that identifies issues and recommendations, and to provide financial advice on Revenue, Commercial and Investment transactions, Risk and Performance

Desirable

• Knowledge and experience of CSIRO systems and processes to develop and drive a financial strategy to support, monitor and deliver the business unit and CSIRO objectives.
• Proficiency in using SAP and Microsoft Dynamics and SAC reporting.
• Understanding of Australian Accounting Standards, in particular AASB15: Revenue from Contracts with Customers
