The Prevention Services Division is home to programs that have a broad-reaching impact on the population’s health, including: injury and violence prevention, overdose prevention, food security, health care access, family planning, child and family health promotion, chronic disease prevention and early detection, tobacco control, mental health promotion, suicide prevention, oral health, built environment, program evaluation and epidemiology, and others. Prevention programs reduce poor outcomes and save health care dollars by intervening on issues early, creating better health and quality of life for our residents. In Colorado, prevention dollars are limited, requiring the division to be strategic in how funds are implemented. Ultimately, the Prevention Services Division mission is to Improve the population’s health outcomes through strategic and targeted programming.
The position is a key strategic leader and seasoned public health professional that is critical to the division meeting its mission to improve health outcomes in Colorado. The position oversees several high-profile prevention units, including Office of Gun Violence Prevention; Office of Suicide Prevention; Violence and Injury Prevention/Mental Health Promotion Branch; Children, Youth, and Families Branch; and the Epidemiology and Evaluation Branch, plus the functions of communications and strategic planning for the entire Division.
The position reports to the division director and works closely with CDPHE leadership to meet division and department goals. The position oversees and promotes effective program planning that produces positive health outcomes. The position directs the strategic use of data, evidence-based strategies, and consistent evaluation practices to move the needle and produce results. As an expert in program planning and evaluation, the position may provide consultation to other division deputies and programs.
The position provides strong management by setting expectations for their team, holding frequent check-ins, assuring alignment with the priorities and direction of the larger agency, and driving performance. The position manages high-profile programs and areas that are priorities for state leaders. The position assures that public facing information is clear and that the division’s communications are effective. The position assists the division director with strategic planning processes, including priority and goal setting for the division. The position works with CDPHE’s Office of Strategy, Innovation and Performance to facilitate the monitoring and reporting of divisional progress on high priority goals.

A Master’s Degree in Public Health or similar related degree, and a minimum of 4 years of documented experience managing people and public health programs to produce positive outcomes, two (2) of which must have included experience with public or business administration, establishing goals and objectives, as well as developing and managing a budget to achieve program goals and objectives.
