Job Description

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The Critical Incident Stress Management Unit (CISM) mission is to provide ongoing support to members of the service who respond to or are Involved in critical incidents. Participants meet with qualified Mental Health Professionals to debrief an incident and receive ongoing support and training in a confidential and supportive environment. The program collects and maintains key program performance, outcome measures, and dashboards to inform trauma mitigation support initiatives and suicide prevention. The Critical Incident Stress Management Program is a proactive approach in promoting wellness and overall well-being of all members of service.

The Health and Wellness Section is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Administrative Psychologist, level M-2 designated as the Deputy Director, Health and Wellness Section. This position will have a detailed and intricate role in assisting the Director with supporting the department in the section dealing with mental health issues.
Duties include:
- Assist the Director in supervising the work of Psychologists and psychology staff, acting as a consultant when they encounter problems
- Provide triage evaluation of social, occupational, emotional, or psychological issues for self-referred employees
- Conduct wellness checks of individuals involved in a critical incident
- Conduct group critical incident debriefing
- Provide outreach to designated NYPD precincts
- Provide clinical supportive services including brief counseling, referral, and disposition planning
- Develop and conduct mental health training for members of the Department.
- Assist Director in Initiative development and draft grant proposals to receive independent funding for these programs
- In the absence of the Director, act as a liaison with other department leadership
- Assist the Director in representing psychological services, and speak before lay and professional peers.

Qualifications

Qualification Requirements:
1. (a) A doctorate degree in psychology from an accredited college and five years of full-time, satisfactory professional psychological experience in a recognized hospital, law enforcement agency, clinic, social agency, school, or other approved organization, of which at least eighteen months must have been in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or in supervision of professional psychologists performing duties in any of the settings described immediately above; and

(b) A valid license as Psychologist issued by the New York State Department
of Education; or

2. A valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York, and possession of a valid Board Certification issued by the American Specialty Board in the area of Psychiatry, and two years of full-time, satisfactory, professional psychological or psychiatric experience in a recognized hospital, clinic, law enforcement agency, social agency, school, or other approved organization, of which at least eighteen months must have been in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or in supervision of professional psychologists and/or psychiatrists performing duties in any of the settings immediately described above; or

3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have either the doctorate degree in psychology and the license as Psychologist described in "1" above, or the license to practice medicine and the Board Certification in Psychiatry as described in "2" above. In addition, all candidates must have the eighteen months of experience in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity described in "1" and "2" above.
