About the Role

Talarico for Texas is building a movement to take back power for working people. We are seeking a full-time Deputy Director for Creative Content to join our communications team. This is a managerial role that will oversee the ideation and drafting of digital content capable of breaking through an increasingly fragmented and fast-moving new media environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Creative Director in managing a multidisciplinary team responsible for translating messaging and policy priorities into compelling, accessible narratives tailored to diverse online audiences
  • Identify and execute creative opportunities for real-time, viral content tied to news cycles and cultural moments
  • Establish strong processes and editorial standards to guarantee efficient workflows across the Creative Department as well as message and tone consistency in all outputs
  • Draft and storyboard content that is adaptable for every type of new media platform — including non-traditional online spaces capable of reaching audiences who don’t frequently engage in politics
  • Collaborate with team members responsible for content production (videographers, editors, etc.) to ensure content drafts are compatible with the desired production outputs

Requirements

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in political communications, digital media, or a related field
  • Exceptional writing skills and strong editorial judgement
  • Fluent in new media platforms, social media, Reddit, Substack, and others
  • Deep familiarity with the evolving digital media landscape, including video trends and platform-specific best practices.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to balance speed with quality in a rapidly adapting political environment
  • Willingness to work nights and some weekends

James was born at Round Rock Hospital. After graduating from McNeil High School, he earned a bachelor’s degree in government from The University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in education policy from Harvard University. James taught 6th grade at an underserved public school where he worked with kids and

families to close the gaps in his classroom. He now serves as the local Executive Director of a nonprofit that provides innovative technology to thousands of our students. James is committed to working with everyone — Republicans, Democrats, and Independents — to move Texas forward.
