The Team You’ll Work With:
The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Community Safety is committed to developing policies and implementing programs to address the problems that mental health issues create for the individuals who experience them and the families supporting them, prevent violent incidents before they take place, reduce the incidence of gun violence, and provide critical services to victims of violence by prioritizing tested and compassionate solutions that have been consistently demonstrated to improve safety. The Office of the Deputy Mayor will institute a whole-of-government approach that prioritizes crisis response and evidence-based violence prevention programs. The office oversees interagency coordination and Citywide implementation to operate as effectively as possible and to deliver the sense of safety and security that all New Yorkers deserve.

The Problems You’ll Solve:
The Deputy Chief of Staff’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise Deputy Mayor for Community Safety team members, including management of staff daily operations, advising team on immediate and long-term strategies with Community Safety agencies, managing ongoing crises, and liaising between staff and Deputy Mayor, along with the Chief of Staff.
- Develop and execute portfolio-wide strategic projects and plans in coordination with Community Safety agencies and other City Hall offices to ensure cohesion across vision, goals, projects, and timelines.
- Oversee DMCS team members’ coordination with City Hall communications, press, and legislative affairs teams regarding the Deputy Mayor’s priorities.
- Assist the Deputy Mayor and Chief of Staff with oversight of confidential structural or organizational issues facing agencies within the portfolio, as well as advising on key hiring or appointments within City Hall and the agencies.

About You:
- You understand the community safety policy issues related to New York City and the provision of services across its five boroughs: an understanding of New York City’s government agencies and/or community-based organizations is a plus.
- You have excellent communication, writing, research, analytical, and organizational skills, with the ability to rapidly solve problems and pay close attention to detail.
- You can complete work independently with broadly defined work objectives and limited review of overall results.
- You have enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic team culture.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- 2+ years of related work experience and 5+ years of related experience.
