Deputy Chief Court Administrator

Salary: Commensurate with experience

General Description and Classification Standards:

This class is distinguished from the Court Administrator class in that an incumbent provides specialized assistance with the oversight of one or more designated areas of the Municipal Court rather than the overall activities of the Court. Incumbents of this class maintain considerable latitude for independent actions and exercise professional discretion within the framework of departmental policies.

In the absence of the Court Administrator, incumbents of this class act on matters for which authority has been delegated. Otherwise, incumbents in this class are responsible for carrying out high level initiatives as identified by the Court Administrator and providing oversight of one or more of the following areas: budget and fiscal services communication and customer care; information systems technology planning, execution and maintenance, court operations and quality control in the assigned area of specialization.

In addition, incumbents will be responsible for planning, implementing, evaluating and improving administrative and operational policies, procedures and programs monitoring or participating in employee selection, performance management, development and relations; and providing operational performance reports. Incumbents in this class will directly supervise Court Operations Managers and other supervisors as necessary.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities: This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully, it is not an exhaustive list.

  • Knowledge of (as related to purview of selected position): Courts procedures and policies, legal documents, laws, and legal factors pertaining to the organization. The organization, operations, functions, and scope of authority. Innovative administrative and operational practices and procedures. Automated information systems used in the court.
  • Knowledge of concepts, processes, and tools of project management. Accounting practices and principles. Government policies and practices. Laws and regulations related to public sector financial management, budgeting, and fiscal analysis.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience –

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited institution with a major in Finance, Accounting or Business/Public/Court Administration, or a related field.
  • Five (5) or more years extensive supervisory, management and administrative experience performing fiscal and accounting activities including internal auditing and funds administration; and analyzing, compiling, preparing and presenting fiscal and statistical information for an organization.
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides the requisite competencies for this job will be considered.


Licensures and Certifications -
Fingerprinting required as a part of pre-employment onboarding. CJIS Security Policy v5-9-5.

Preferred Requirements -

  • Masters degree in the above areas and/or Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Certified Public Financial Officer (CPFO) preferred.
  • Fiscal management experience working for or directly with a court or public sector agency a plus.
  • Professional certification and/or membership in industry-related professional organizations a plus.
  • Experience using National Center for State Courts CourTools performance measurement system a plus.
