Deputy CEO

Reporting to

: CEO / Board of Directors

Location:

NAIROBI

Job Purpose

The Deputy CEO will support the CEO in driving the company’s strategy and operational performance, ensuring safe, compliant, and profitable execution of petroleum business activities, while strengthening governance, leadership effectiveness, and organizational capability.
1.
Key Responsibilities

a)
Strategy and Execution

i. Support development and execution of corporate strategy and annual operating plans.
ii. Translate strategic objectives into measurable initiatives and ensure delivery across functions.
iii. Lead strategic reviews, identify growth opportunities, and propose investment priorities.
iv. Monitor industry trends and competitive dynamics to inform leadership decisions.
b)
Operational Leadership & Performance

i. Oversee day-to-day performance across key functions (operations, supply chain, commercial,
finance as assigned).
ii. Establish and monitor KPIs, ensuring accountability and continuous improvement.
iii. Drive operational excellence, cost optimization, and service quality improvements.
iv. Ensure business continuity, efficiency, and timely resolution of critical operational issues.
c)
Governance, Risk, HSE & Compliance

i. Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with HSE and regulatory requirements.
ii. Strengthen enterprise risk management, internal controls, and compliance frameworks.
iii. Support incident escalation and corrective action governance where required.
d)
Stakeholder & Business Development Support

i. Maintain relationships with key stakeholders, regulators, strategic partners, and major clients.
ii. Support negotiation and oversight of major contracts and partnerships.
iii. Represent the company in high-level engagements as delegated by the CEO.
e)
Leadership & Talent Development

i. Build, coach, and develop a high-performing leadership team.
ii. Drive alignment across departments and improve cross-functional collaboration.
iii. Support succession planning and leadership development programs.


Requirements


Key Qualifications and Experience

i. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Energy Management, or a related field; MBA is an added advantage.
ii. Minimum of 12–15 years of leadership experience, preferably in oil & gas/energy or related sectors.
iii. Demonstrated track record in driving business performance and strategic execution.
iv. Strong commercial acumen, including contract management and financial performance oversight.
v. Solid understanding of HSE, regulatory compliance, and risk management in the petroleum industry.
vi. Exceptional leadership, stakeholder management, and decision-making capability.
vii. Strong communication and presentation skills at executive and board level.
viii. Ability to operate effectively under pressure in complex environments.
ix. Experience in change management and organizational transformation is an advantage.
x. High integrity and strong governance mindset.
