The Department of Physics and Astronomy is seeing undergraduate and graduate students to serve as department tutors who can assist students enrolled in the introductory physics courses. Preference will be given to candidates who have strong math backgrounds and are able to tutor within the full range of undergraduate physics courses. The successful candidate will join an intellectually stimulating and innovative academic environment that embraces diversity, offers B.A. and B.S. degrees in Physics, with minors in astronomy and applied physics, and an interdisciplinary M.S. degree in Materials Science, which is associated with the Center for Advanced Functional Materials ( https://materials.csusb.edu). We are particularly interested in receiving applications from all groups historically underrepresented in Physics/Astronomy and STEM fields, including intersections across multiple groups.
TYPICAL ACTIVITIES
Qualified candidates must demonstrate strong mathematic skills, excellence in mentoring physic courses, and wiliness to assist the course instructor in duties related to the ISA. They should exhibit a commitment to mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines. Activities may include tutoring, grading, setting-up demonstrations, group study session, and other appropriate activities that reinforce key physics concepts aimed at helping students actively engage with the subject matter and deepen their understanding.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should be STEM major majors with excellent understanding of math and physics concepts and pedagogy.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Evidence of exemplary academic achievement in physics, astronomy or math courses.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Physics and Astronomy Department offers B.A. and B.S. degrees in Physics, with minors in astronomy and applied physics, and an interdisciplinary M.S. degree in Materials Science, which is associated with the Center for Advanced Functional Materials ( https://materials.csusb.edu). With approximately 50 majors, the department semester and year-long physic courses for other STEM departments. The department oversees the administration and operation of the Murillo Family Observatory.
