The Department of English is committed to the symbiotic relationship of teaching, research and the larger concerns of society. Dedicated members of the department contribute to the teaching of interdisciplinary programs at both the undergraduate level and the graduate level, as well as bringing their interdisciplinary interests to their English courses. Reporting to the Chair, the Department Manager is responsible for management of the financial, human, space, IT, and physical resources and assets of the Department of English at the Faculty of Arts & Science. The Department Manager supports and advises the Chair on financial strategies for the department, develops, manages and monitors operating budget, forecasts revenues and spending and oversees administration of faculty research grants. The Department Manager ensures that business and administrative practices are consistent with University and Faculty policies and practices. The Department Manager leads and motivates administrative staff members and manages functions related to human resource management including assignment of work, hiring, performance management, and professional development of staff. The Manager is responsible for oversight and management of the Department’s physical space, and IT equipment and needs. The Manager oversees departmental operations and broad management initiatives and works with the Chair to develop departmental strategic plans in alignment with the goals of the Faculty and the University and ensures administrative practices are in compliance with University policies and guidelines.
