Pure Research (PR) comprises fundamental systematic research of exploratory nature for the development of new products and services as well as disruptive technologies superseding conventional approaches. In contrast to applied R&D, PR covers the provision of a comprehensive understanding of scientific insights without directed application towards products, policies, or operational processes.


Support a research team driving the design and fabrication of High Speed Analog and Digital Interface devices as part of Global Bell Labs team and in support of the Bell Labs Vision with an aspiration for fundamental and disruptive innovation.

  • Your mission is to lead a highly skilled team of researchers in the field of high speed III-V semiconductor technology covering multiple technological areas :

    • InP bipolar transistor modeling (<0.5µm)

    • InP HBT process development and wafer fabrication

    • Integrated circuit design using advanced EDA tools in the field of high Speed Electro-Optical interfaces dedicated to optical fiber communications and datacom. Possible extension towards wireless/Terahertz, NTN, sensing, etc.

    • Characterization, testing and associated set-ups

    • Advanced Electro-Optical prototype packaging for evaluation and system demos

  • You will be responsible for long term strategy definition and research realization & supervision

    • Objectives definitions with respect to Nokia Bell Labs goals, R&D strategy definition and enforcement

    • Setup and maintain a suitable environment for your team in order to deliver major technical & scientific achievements in a very competitive environment

    • Responsible of R&D collaborative projects management (Chips JU, H2020, Horizon Europe, SNS, ANR)

    • You will need to stay on top of the state of the art within your competence domain and benchmark your team’s work with respect to the rest of the world.

    • As a department head you will be responsible to interact with other teams from different research domains and different geographical locations within Nokia.

    • You will participate in support of the larger III-V group including other Nokia members as well as those from the other companies in the III-V JV from Thales and CEA Leti.

  • Reporting and communication (to peers, upper and lower levels)

  • Ph.D. in Electrical engineering or equivalent, with a minimum of 8 years of experience in research activities related to semiconductor, integrated circuit design or electro-optical devices

  • 5-year experience minimum required in: people management and/or collaborative research project management (as leader or work-package leader), or any other experience in management of direct or indirect people reports.

  • With an excellent knowledge of the semiconductor technology domain you are a “Hands-on” team manager having a broad view of scientific challenges in your domain and capable of defining a vision for the next 10 years.

  • Track record of achievements in Applied Research and/or leading-edge R&D activities, including scientific/technical publications and/or patents

    • Experience and/or knowledge in the following fields would be a plus:

      • microwave (RF) and/or optoelectronics engineering

      • high frequency transistor technologies, or other devices or circuits as well as their characterizations, modeling methods and CAD tools

  • With excellent leadership skills you are able to evlolve in a complex environment, promote other’s achievements, ensure team coaching and mentoring to promote individual development

  • ability to conduct leading-edge research in a complex, demanding and fast-changing technical environment

  • autonomy and ability to manage ambiguity

  • written and spoken communication in both French and English
