Examples of duties

This position provides professional dental care to residents across multiple secure treatment units and ensures safe, effective, and well-documented services. As a Dentist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Dental Examinations: Perform oral exams, review x-rays, and provide cleanings and treatments as needed
  • Treatment Procedures: Provide restorations, extractions, root canals, and periodontal care to maintain oral health
  • Oral Education: Teach residents proper oral hygiene practices and explain post-treatment instructions
  • Infection Control: Apply sterilization standards and ensure proper handling of dental instruments and materials
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate dental records, dental service plans, and dental summary reports in accordance with guidelines
  • Care Coordination: Schedule visits, manage referrals, and communicate with staff to support resident treatment needs

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours will vary, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You will rotate weekly between the three Eastern Region sites: North Central Secure Treatment Unit (NCSTU) in Montour County, North East Secure Treatment Unit (NESTU) in Luzerne County, and the Southeast Youth Development Center (SYDC) in Montgomery County. This position is headquartered at the North Central Secure Treatment Unit.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $166,143.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Graduation from an approved school of dentistry.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Special Requirement:

  • You must possess a license to practice dentistry issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry.

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
  • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
