Job Description

Provides assistance to the surgical staff and physicians during dental surgical procedures, ensuring availability and proper handling of the instruments, supplies, and equipment.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares dental instruments for sterilization.
  • Assists the dentist during surgery by passing instruments and materials.
  • Coordinates and performs the requisitioning of instruments, supplies, and equipment for dental surgical cases.
  • Maintains a clean and organized surgical environment.
  • Documents patient care and maintains accurate records.
  • Orders and maintains inventory of surgical supplies and equipment.


Education Requirement:

Graduate from an approved dental assistant program or equivalent experience, required.


Licensure Requirement:

Radiographer license, required.


Certifications:

Dental Assistant Certification, preferred.


Skills:

  • Demonstrates manual dexterity.
  • Demonstrates versatility and adaptability.
  • Demonstrates a theoretical and clinical ability to conform to standards of asepsis and infection control.
  • Possess ability to hear and respond appropriately to surgeon and co-worker requests.
  • Demonstrated and documented competency in the scrub role


Experience:

  • One year of Dental Assistant experience, required.
  • Operating or delivery room experience, preferred.

Additional Physical Requirements performed but not listed above:

Must be able to stand a minimum of 5 hours consecutively, frequently.

Must be able to move or reposition patients of any weight or size with the assistance of another person(s) and/or equipment.
