Position Overview:
The Dental Hygienist provides high-quality, youth-centered, and trauma-informed preventive oral health services to adolescents and young adults at The Door’s Adolescent Health Center. Working under the supervision of a licensed Dentist, the Dental Hygienist delivers clinical care, oral health education, and outreach services while ensuring compliance with all clinical standards, and city, state, and federal regulations and guidelines.
Responsibilities:
Clinical Services
- Perform routine dental hygiene services under direct or general supervision of a licensed Dentist, including:
- - Dental prophylaxis, x-rays and oral examinations of the mouth and gums
- - Placement of dental sealants
- - Dental scaling, root planning, and debridement
- - Administration of fluoride treatments, as clinically indicated
- - Screening for oral health conditions and assisting with treatment planning
- Provide age-appropriate oral health education, preventive counseling, and health promotion to patients
- Initiate and support referrals to external dental providers and specialty services when needed, including appropriate patient follow-up
Program Development & Outreach
- Develop, implement, and support oral health education and outreach programs for adolescent and young adult populations
- Participate in health promotion initiatives, including tobacco and vaping prevention/cessation education
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary AHC staff to support integrated, holistic care
Supervision & Operations
- Provide professional and clinical supervision to Dental Assistants, as assigned
- Support inventory management of dental supplies and ensure proper maintenance of dental equipment
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and reports as required
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable city, state, and federal regulations, including NYSDOH Article 28 and HRSA Section 330 (FQHC), guidelines
- Adhere to OSHA, CDC, HIPAA, and infection prevention and control standards
- Participate in quality improvement activities, training, and staff meetings as required
Qualifications:
- Active Dental Hygienist license in the State of New York (required)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience preferably with children, adolescents, or young adults.
- Demonstrated knowledge of regulations governing Article 28 dental programs
- Strong clinical, organizational, and communication skills
- Experience working in community health, school-based, or adolescent-focused settings preferred
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations using culturally responsive and trauma-informed approaches
- Basic computer literacy and ability to document services in an electronic health record (EHR)
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) desired.
Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 10 am to 6 pm, Wednesday 10 am to 6:30 pm (up to 7 pm as needed) on site, 35 hours a week, including some evening hours.
Salary: $95,000 - $110,000 annually
