The Dental Hygienist is an integral part of the clinical services team at Rocky Mountain Health Care Services. This position promotes dental health of participants by conducting cleanings, screening for oral diseases and provides other preventative and restorative treatments in accordance with standard dental practice. The ideal candidate will have several years of general dental experience, a positive and collaborative disposition and a desire to be part of an organization whose mission is to make a difference in the health of our participants.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs routine dental care within scope of practice for participants as stipulated in the participants care plan. This can include but is not limited to: cleaning teeth and gums, screening for oral disease such as gingivitis and oral cancer, arresting dental decay with cavity-preventing agents and administering dental prophylaxis as needed
  • Ensures operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques and making recommendations to manager
  • Provides thorough education to participants about good oral hygiene, plaque control and post-operative instructions
  • Prepares and maintains treatment areas by adhere to all prescribed procedures, protocols and regulations
  • Accurately documents participant dental hygiene services in the electronic health record and maintains strict confidentiality of participant information as required of HIPAA
  • Maintains a professional, but soothing atmosphere for participants who might be frightened or uncomfortable with dental procedures
  • Performs as part of the inter-disciplinary team, as needed or required
  • Assists with Utilization Management, pre-authorization and service requests from contracted providers
  • Other duties as assigned



Qualifications

  • Associates degree in dental hygiene and active dental hygienist license registered and is in good standing with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) required
  • 3-5 years of experience working as a Dental Hygienist required
  • 1 year of working with the frail or elderly required
  • CPR/BLS certification required
