Dental Equipment Service Technician

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, four (4) years of full-time related technical experience or a combination of experience and an apprenticeship program or technical/trade school totaling four (4) full-time years may be considered. Two (2) years of full-time related technical experience in plumbing, heating, electricity, or electronics

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Brief Description of Duties:

The Dental Equipment Service Technician will install, repair and maintain dental equipment and provide expert advice and service to the Dental Care Center.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, inspect, diagnose and repair dental equipment in a professional manner.

  • Prioritize, respond to and document all repair requests in a timely manner.

  • Manage and maintain clinic water filtration systems according to guidelines.

  • Collaborate with clinic leadership in the selection of new equipment purchases, installations, service contract negotiations and provide recommendations for capital equipment replacements.

  • Perform on-site system evaluations and diagnostics as needed to ensure compatibility of products with existing client hardware and software.

  • Conduct routine system checks and record data from product tests after installation and configuration.

  • Perform regular preventative maintenance system checks for clinical equipment.

  • Perform software updates and calibrations related to dental equipment.

  • Maintain inventory of stock parts and tools.

Inventory Management

  • Work collaboratively with the receiving department and warehouse personnel regarding the repair, availability and maintenance of portable and non-portable nitrous and oxygen system units.

  • Responsible for hardware parts replacement.

  • Build and maintain professional relationships with manufacturers’ representatives to obtain the necessary technical product information and training.

Record Keeping

  • Complete all paperwork pertaining to installations.

  • Create and maintain a library of all manuals, warranties and installation checklists.

  • Document and maintain accurate records of all inspections, repairs, adjustments, and other service performed on equipment; request/order necessary repair and spare parts according to established procedures and contract relationships.

Procedures and Practices

  • Adhere to the Dental Care Center, SDM and SBU policies and procedures.

  • Remain up to date on various high-tech equipment and services.

  • Assist in the training of faculty and clinical staff on the safe and proper use of equipment.

  • Provide input in the development of procedures, and protocols related to equipment.


Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non-Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.

In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.

Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such may be required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are canceled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.

Evening and weekend work will be required at times.
