Position Summary
Under the direction of a licensed dentist or dental hygienist, Dental Assistants support the delivery of exceptional patient care while ensuring a safe, efficient, and welcoming dental environment. Team members participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care while performing a variety of technical and clinical duties.
Positions may be filled at the Dental Assistant Trainee, I, II, or III level based on experience, education, certification, and demonstrated competencies.

What You'll Do
Patient Care & Clinical Support
- Prepare patients for dental appointments by reviewing and updating medical and dental records.
- Obtain and record vital signs, chief complaints, and relevant health information.
- Prepare instruments, materials, and treatment rooms for procedures.
- Assist dentists during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques.
- Maintain sterile fields and ensure compliance with infection control standards.
- Capture diagnostic dental radiographs.
- Perform point-of-care testing when appropriate, including blood glucose and HbA1c testing.
Expanded Clinical Duties
Depending on experience, training, and licensure:
- Apply fluoride treatments and dental sealants.
- Place rubber dams.
- Fabricate temporary crowns.
- Pack cord and remove sutures.
- Take dental impressions and prepare study models.
- Assist with restorative, surgical, and preventive procedures.
- Fabricate CEREC crowns (Dental Assistant III).
Patient Education & Coordination
- Educate patients on oral hygiene, preventive care, post-operative instructions, medication use, and healthy habits.
- Coordinate referrals and assist with scheduling.
- Follow up with patients after surgical procedures and specialty referrals.
Safety, Compliance & Operations
- Sterilize instruments and maintain sterilization documentation.
- Adhere to OSHA, CDC, HIPAA, and ANHC safety standards.
- Assist with equipment maintenance and safety testing.
- Support inventory management and supply stocking.
- Maintain accurate and complete patient records.

Career Levels
Dental Assistant Trainee
Ideal for individuals interested in beginning a dental career.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
- Willingness to learn and complete required training.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Current CPR/BLS certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
Dental Assistant I

Qualifications:
- Minimum one year of dental clinic experience.
- Completion of a dental assistant training program or equivalent experience.
- Basic understanding of dental procedures and infection control.
- CPR/BLS certification required.
Dental Assistant II

Qualifications:
- Demonstrated proficiency in chairside assisting and clinical workflows.
- Experience with dental radiography and dental software.
- Ability to perform dental assisting duties independently with minimal supervision.
Dental Assistant III

Qualifications:
- Minimum two years of dental clinic experience.
- Experience with dental software and electronic dental records.
- Fully competent in:
- - Dental radiography
- - Patient intake and vital signs
- - Four-handed dentistry
- - Sterilization processes
- - Procedure preparation
- Competent in the fabrication of CEREC crowns.
- Front desk dental experience preferred.
Education, Certification & Licensure
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Graduation from an accredited Dental Assistant program and certification required for applicable positions.
- Current CPR/BLS certification required.
- Additional certifications may be required based on level and duties.

Physical Requirements
The physical demands described are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, speaking, hearing, and use of hands.
- Occasional lifting and moving of up to 25 pounds.
- Visual abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Work performed in a healthcare clinic and office setting.
