Ensures safe and efficient patient care by working cooperatively with staff and volunteers to provide care for patients, assist dentists with dental procedures, and support staff with treatment room prep, charting in Eaglesoft, and maintaining supply inventory. Maintains knowledge of and adheres to infection control guidelines, patient privacy regulations and clinic policies/procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to treatment area; positioning instruments for dentist's access; suctioning; passing instruments

  • Prepares treatment room for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols.

  • Preparing patient for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting, seating and draping patient; and educating patients by giving oral hygiene and postoperative instructions.

  • Assists in managing dental and medical emergencies

  • Documents dental care services by charting in patient records.

  • Assists clinic coordinator with maintaining dental supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; and communicating supply needs to coordinator for ordering.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - Completion of an accredited Dental Assisting Program

  • Experience - No experience required. One (1) year dental assistant experience preferred.

In Lieu Of

  • In lieu of the education and experience requirements noted above, must have at least ten (10) years of experience as a dental assistant.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

  • Must obtain and maintain a Nitrous Oxide Certification from the Board of Dentistry from the state in which work is performed within 3 months of hire.

  • CPR certification

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with EPIC Wisdom - preferred
