Your Specific Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of this position are to assure the delivery of quality dental services to clients of the Leon County Health Department. This includes but is not limited to actual treatment performed on patients, supervision of ancillary dental personnel, assurance of confidentiality, monitoring sterilization procedures, development of community dental programs to assist in screening high risk individuals and periodic training programs as needed. Clerical functions also include the scheduling of patient appointments, verification of eligibility, registration and data entry. Rotates in the three sub-assistant positions: lead flexible and clerical. (Descriptions attached)

Assisting in the delivery of dental services to include examinations; taking/developing, mounting and labeling x-rays; insuring health histories are complete; placing sealants; prophylaxis; restorative, surgical and endodontic procedures; oral hygiene instructions; patient management and education. Assists and instructs student interns as appropriate.

Sterilization, disinfecting, cleaning and maintenance of instruments, equipment and operatories as appropriate according to state, federal and ADA guidelines.

Clerical functions to include answering the telephone, making patient appointments, client registration, determining client eligibility and income, verification of Medicaid or other insurance eligibility, preparing superbills, data entry of services, filing and retrieving patient charts while maintaining client confidentiality and building security procedures at all times.

Maintaining inventory of consumable supplies and ordering within an adequate timeframe to ensure that no materials are ever totally depleted.

Follows OSHA regulations to ensure compliance, maintains Material Data Safety Sheets and follows required safety guidelines.

Completes timesheets and Employee Activity Record in a timely manner and keeps leave balance records.

Assist in community dental screening programs.

Performs other related duties as required by supervisor.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Basic knowledge of dental medicine and knowledge of principles and practices used to perform dental procedures. Ability to understand verbal and written instructions. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively and to maintain effective working relationships. Strong organizational and administrative skills.

Qualifications:

GED, High School Diploma, Expanded Function Certificate is preferred
